  1. I need a 50mm piston for a early 044, Stihl no longer make this one anymore with the 10mm pin, I'm thinking of a Chinese one from flebay, I've never used one before, what the general opinion on these? Are they worth the effort?

  2. Th south east desperately needs a dedicated high capacity Biomass plant. There's no shortage of chip.

Fingers crossed something will get sorted soon, in the short term the price for chip here in the south has dropped by 80% :(

  3. I heard on the grapevine today that Slough biomass power station has closed permanently, no doubt resulting in many job loses.

Does anyone have anymore info on this?

Now what am I going to do with the chip

  4. I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, I'm seem to be getting a increasing number of unwanted advertising SMS messages from ARb suppliers (some on this forum you know who you are!)

Am I the only one who finds really irritating?

If I want something I know where you are!

Email I can handle everyone's used to that, but not my own personal mobile phone, I don't get them from other industry's I may contact

    Please stop

    Rant over.

  5. What a pile of scrap, as bad as that is we had a machine nearly as awful that chipped that bad about 15 years ago sold under the caravaggi brand, was a truly awful single roller pile of poo. And the flywheel fell off! I still see them crop up every now and then under a different name tho.

  6. Stihl UK do supply dual port mufflers - I have one. Ask a dealer to get you one. You only need to buy the front cover as you can cut out the internals yourself.

There is quite a noticable power increase making it a worthwhile IMO as your saw will also run cooler as well

You MUST richen up the carb however or you will kill the saw!!

Ok I'll get one ordered up. Thanks for the tuning tip ill have fiddle with them.

  7. Is the only difference between the regular 660 and the Magnum just the muffler? And is there much noticeable difference when using? I've done a bit of research on mediacat on it it's the only difference in parts I can see. If so does anyone no where I can get a muffler? Stihl won't supply to uk. Cheers.

  8. The oiler plate should just have a small slot screw holding in on. If the clutch surround wont come off it may of got hot and melted a little around the drum, a good pull with pliers should do it. Ensure all the torx screws are out, I think there's four on that saw. If none of that works, drum off I'm afraid.

  9. Take the spring off the moving roller and inspect the slide - there might he something preventing it returning to the shut position. Ensure that the carrier rolls the full distance smoothly before replacing. I'm not sure that that much benefit can be gained from putting an edge on the rollers, good spring pressure should suffice.

Another thing worth doing on any older chipper is to check the blow off pressure as the spring may reduce its efficiency and it will work at a lower pressure - thus not pulling in so well.

    ok will do, thanks Pete
  10. I've got a Greenmech Quadchip which is about three years old, a 2inch gap has developed between the feed rollers meaning small brash is a pain to chip, could anyone point in the right direction to fix it? Also I'd like to sharpen the rollers are they easy to remove? Thanks in advance.
