Having bought the Halfords pro socket and spanner set when it was on special offer, it's OK but I can't say much more than that about it imo, I have a fair bit of Clarke professional socket set gear and that has been abused like mad but still in very good condition, and have proved their worth on worn bolt heads.

    I would like Snap-on but have a bad habit of not putting tools away properly when we have a break down in the field and losing them, so would be insane for me to spend too much money on tools.

    The only thing I do intend to treat myself to soon is a Snap-on torque wrench as I am sick of inaccurate poor quality one's.

    their torque wrenches are not that great, they come close to failing a calibration test even when new, a good pass should be + or - 2%, snap will be close to 5, and those from the market are about 15%! The ones to get are Norbar, they can be repaired and easily adjustable.
  2. I think it actually is registered with schliesing from what the original seller has said .. Don't see what the problem is with putting an engine on a tpo chipper it still retains the safety features , although this machine is too old to comply with most of them!! Even so it would be worth buying just to put back on 3 pt linkage if you had the time and skill.

    Totally agree if it's done properly, but sadly rarely the case. I think really homemade chassis and running gear are more scary then the chipper mods. Considering what we have to comply with MOTs.

  3. Why illegal?

    Because generally and there are exceptions of good Fabricators doing mods, but most of the time people have no idea about what they are doing, you can't just throw together a towing chassis and stick a car petrol (it looks like diesel by the pics bty) engine and gear box and hope for the best. That's how accidents start, some of the worst are home made log splitters. I'm sure they have the best intentions, it's all fine and dandy till someone gets hurt.

  4. Mine did it so bad that it pushed the belt cover into the belts. I can't understand why the tanks are so big?? Especially on a machine where weight is crucial, smaller tanks could mean making the machine stronger, which is needed. They even have a hydraulic oil cooler on them, both tanks could be halved easily.

  5. Don't be tempted to fit RHP or similar, they won't last, but will be a lot cheaper, I expect they will be a Browning or Rexnord, they'll still be expensive where ever you go. Better to fit the good ones. As for the specs better to get the old ones off and measured, there will be variations. Being Vermeer they'll be imperial.

So by reading all this thread it would seem that Redwood are no longer dealing directly with Jensen, which is a real shame as I like Redwood and the guys there a lot and Jensen is a good product, as has been said previously it's hardly surprising though if there're pushing their own Forst over the Jensen, if I were Jensen I'd not be happy with that. From what I hear and read there are some problems with Forst machines, I hope they take these as constructive criticism and iron them out and not as cheap digs, also from what I've seen on the machines there are some very good points to them, but there are corners cut to save money without thinking owners point of view - meaning less down time. Like I said I like Redwood a lot and have found them great to deal with and I reckon with some tweaking the Forst is a great machine waiting to get out. Let's hope they get it sorted. Let's also not forget it's only been about for a very short amount of time, some have been about for donkey's and still can't get it right!!

Both my A540di and 750 contractor have had top roller beating failure around 300hrs in, a poor engineering design IMO, the bearing is too small for the load, and the roller is only supported at one end, which is obvious is not sufficient, I do get cross when there is a obvious design fault and the manufacturer does nothing to address on future machines. To boot changing the bearing is a time consuming job. That point aside they are very good machines.

  8. I'm after a pedestrian flail mower - any purveyors in the south wales area/ m4 corridor

     

    I'm sure there was someone in cross hands but the seem to have disappeared?

     

    I'm looking for something quite heavy duty for gorse regrowth approx. 1 metre high

     

    due to access the alternative is clearing saw/ chainsaw.

  9. Does anyone know the status quo on the weather the touch button feed control system fitted to some Jensen chippers are complying with current regulations? I hear from another machine supplier this week that there is a grey cloud over them from their configuration and operation. Also I see they are fitted to Forst too. I may be wrong on all counts hear, any info would be appreciated as I have two Jensens with them.

  10. When considering capacity against cost, build simplicty, engeneering quality, ease of maintenance and repair, productivity and residual value. You will not beat Heizohack, no other manufacture will be able to tick all those boxes like a Heizo can. I'm no way affiliated with them. But know my onions.

  11. Hello I have two schliesing Chippers a 200 and a 220 turntable both great machines. The 220 has the v cut blade system it's a little tricky to set the blades the first few times as there are 4 blade rather then 2. The blade life is longer And i get around 6 weeks before a blade change. Also a set of blades cost around £300 from overland and Saturn machine knife don't stock v blades so does costs more to run but you get better blade life.

     

    What machine are you thinking of buying? Give Rob at overland a call he will tell you all you need to know about the black sound paint.

    Is there a noticeable difference in performance?
