  1. We are looking for a new bod to work in the Stirling area, Ideally we would like CS 30-31 and 38-39 and a little experience. Wage will be negotiable, according to experience. Although technically this is a part time position we anticipate full time hours for the next 2 months at least, from there on it will depend on workload. Please PM if interested, we will be holding trial / interview days next week.
  2. Yes. Stupidly people just won't buy softwood......and I am selling hard wood delivered for £60 a cube... Buy an artic load of ready split wood from me for £50 a cube and sell it in bulk bags for £50 each... thats £90 a cube! £40 profit each time......
  3. I really don't see a problem, how many tonnes of pork do we eat in the uk every day? I'll bet its a lot. The advances in medica trauma technology that have cone through since the war in afganistan have been significant and are now being used in A&E depts up and down the country. ( a friend and neighbour of ours is a doctor in the marines ) Something good coming out of something bad.....
  4. Its been said of the firewood game before, " selling the unprofitable to the ungrateful"
  5. No, I have always liked the range rover 6x6 and I have a mate with a defender 6x6 that looks cool. For some reason that looks like a mobility bus. Crap.
  6. Beeches like that are ten a penny, get it felled and plant a new one. No point watching it slowly decline over the next 10 years, thats ten years in which its (inevitable) replacement could have been gaining stature.
  7. Imagine if he had ordered 4 cube, he would have been expecting one of these......
  8. I was asked about this recently for a guy who has installed a boiler that would take the billets, problem was he doesn't have storage so would need small regular deliveries. Nice idea though if you have the client base to justify the kit.
  9. Good luck, I hope it works out for you. You cant go wrong with tractor and crane...
  10. Nothing wrong with that, its that inappropriate walling thats the problem.
  11. I had a go with Big J's sharpener, it was quick but it doesn't leave them as sharp as a file. I didn't rush out and buy one.
  12. I noticed Mike Hill doing a bit of pruning at around 3 mins.
  13. Don't let Hamma find out, it will be like sweeney todd all over again.
  14. Just give me a call, its so much quicker to sort on the phone, I could get you a delivered price as well if you like.
  15. Sold one load, more available...

    VW Pickup?

Anyone use one? looking at an 06 plate with 19k on the clock. The last VW I drove was a pannel van and went like sh1t off a stick but had very little tourque and was crap for towing. Are the pickups / tippers the same?
  17. Mogs are great as chipping units or as a hauling truck for big loads but for tree work get a tractor and roof mount, the crane is so much more useful than a front loader. Where are you based? if you want to come and look at mine some time you are welcome.
  18. I currently have 40-50 ton of ash roadside with a similar amount of oak coming soon (weather permiting). Its in the borders. Interested parties please call 07801 538 717.Thanks
  19. I could possibly sort accommodation, although not all the work will be on the same site so there may be issues in terms of where to accommodate. Give me a ring if you want to chat about it, I have one interested party already but in the fast paced world of Arb up here more work may be on the horizon that I didn't know about yesterday.... We will see what happens.
  20. We are looking for a competent and productive climber for holiday cover while our lead climber is away for approximately 3 weeks. We have a lot of work to quote for over the next month so this could well turn into a much longer term position. Pay is negotiable please get in touch with me by PM or email. PLEASE NOTE I AM ONLY LOOKING FOR EXPERIENCED CLIMBERS. IF YOU CAN'T DO STUFF LIKE THIS THEN I AM NOT INTERESTED. 21. There is only one option. This.Land Rover conversions - M&D Engineering I had one in in my last 110, awesome engine, peak tourque at 1400Rpm, 150hp fits all TDI ancillaries.....
  22. It was a dog tooth Bob, well, bore and release anyway, order of cuts as follows: gob, bore left, bore right, bore rear, and then simultaneous rear release cuts.
  23. The reason for felling is simple, to dismantle that would have taken days, I did contemplate felling each stem individually, however although 2 of them would have gone of their own accord the third would have required winching, this would have involved being 15' up stropped in to a heavily back leaning stem as it was winched over. I have done this before but it is not the safest of operations and best avoided. The other reason for felling is cost, don't get me wrong I am not taking chances for the sake of a few quid, but at the end of the day I have bought this timber standing, I make my money selling it at roadside, time is money. We have managed to fell process and extract on average around 15-18 ton a day, this is with 2 men the first week and 3 the second, this is not bad but any delays would seriously affect profit.
