  1. Is that 3k to fell and stack in his garden. Can you just leave the stem eg as big as ;)

We have permission to do a 'big' poplar that we have put 3750 on. But we can get a crane in with skips.

Will post photos later. Perhaps you can say it's your. Haha

    Moosie

No, that was to take away as well, must say the skip idea sprung to my mind also. No chance of a crane here!

  2. Update on said tree.

Got the costings figured out, sent off the quote 3k. Received an email yesterday saying the job's mine................if I want, for..........£1500. Wrote a polite email back explaining how I came to that price, manpower, days, fuel, insurances etc etc and said he should bite the hand off of the person who's willing to do the tree for that price. It made me check and double check my price, but I'd stand by it, and I'd love to see how long and how well the other company do the tree.

Shame really, would've been a great takedown.

  3. Did you take a pic of the tree when you priced it? Love to see it. A whole week on a little 70 footer sounds, even with tight access and fences, like a play in the park :):thumbup1:

No shots unfortunately camera not with me, I know its going to sound convoluted but its a particularly big 70footer if you catch my drift. Equal spread to height I reckon, I'm normally pretty good on timings on jobs, and something about this one screamed out to me "need a day or possibly more contingency" you know sometimes you just get that feeling?

Still to get the price in but I think solely down to size of wood and distance to vehicles it's looking like at least 4 days for 3 men possible 4 men! Like I say BIG tree!!

    I shall keep y'all unformed

  4. Looked at a HUGE takedown today, Poplar, easily 70ft tall and not far off 70ft spread. Covers five gardens, all with poor access, too far from the road for crane to be used, so chogged down and hand-balled through the gardens. It's about 6ft diameter at the base!!!

It's a real monster, we are talking MS441 with 26inch bar at 50ft +. Gonna make me sweat for a good few days that one. I reckon easily 1 week's proper hard graft

Client said to keep costs down he'll keep all the branches and wood, but I reckon just one limb will fill his garden up!

I'll put the price in (yet to be worked out) but I'll be surprised if he goes for it, I find people quite often do not appreciate what's needed in big takedowns like this.

Be a great one to get and break out the old head-cam again though.

Random post I know, just wanted to share.

  5. Today was my first outing with a ART ropeguide and Spiderjack combo. Gotta say after 15 years of climbing with cord giving me my friction that this set up obviously takes quite some getting used to. Found limb walking particularly tricky and the control of the decent seems to take lots of practice.

I will persist, as if's its half as good as it looks on the Spiderjackery vid on youtube I'll be well chuffed.

Out of interest, all you converts out there. How long did it take you to get proficient at it ??

  6. Treated myself to an ART rope-guide, arrived today, must say looks like a great piece of kit, but I need a few pointers?

I think I can see how it is installed and used, but retrieval of it once I'm down and on the deck needs a little clarifying in my head???

Any help, advice, pointers would be gratefully received. I have tried to google and youtube it, but there really doesn't seem too much on it.

Once again thanks in advance, really looking forward to using it.

  7. Bit gutted about this one, set camera up for time lapse and due to the cold weather the batteries failed giving me only 120 shots, had a little flip cam on me as well so filmed the felling aided by a tractor to help pull the big ole stem over against it's natural lean, great few days work, felt it towards the end though. Must be getting a little old for it!

For some reason youtube blocks the audio on PC but allows it on Iphone etc...strange. Copyright issues, shame tho because I'm pleased with the soundtrack. Any how peeps hope you like.

Sound still on iPad. What helmet you got on?

Nice vid I recognise the place but I can't put my finger on were it is?

The lid is a petzl vertex (I think) and its just outside of Faversham.

  9. My 2 labs come with me most days & are happy to sit in the van all day unless its really hot. I dont ever ask a customer if its ok to take them & have never found it a problem as i only get them out at dinner time for a walk. If i dont take them people ask where they are!! Like others have said they guard the van but are as soft as when they get out

Wish I coud say the same about mine guarding the van. Soft as!!!
