Can you believe that all 3 lads walked from this?
Whiplash, cuts, bruises and sore backs. By rights there should have been fatalities. Lucky Lucky Lucky
The red truck in the far distance is the one that hit our truck...it took him that far to stop. It rear ended my truck as we were exiting left off an A road.

Persian Ironwood Parrotia persica
Is very tough, clearly not native, but as the name suggests......

I have to say, I still haven't watched it all the way through!

Hello to you all. Just felt like sharing.
A few months ago on site I aggravated an existing and old football injury, 20yrs ago I torn my medial meniscus in my left knee, then sometime after that the ACL (Cruciate ligament) got torn also.
So for the last 20 yrs I've been working in the trees with the knowledge that one day my knee will finally give up.
It did exactly this mid October last year in a fairly spectacular fashion. My unstable knee, after jumping off a barb fence gave way resulting in my Femur smacking down on to my Tibia and fracturing it. Naturally I carried on working the rest of the day in substantial pain etc. and indeed walked around on it for 4 weeks before I was made aware of the full extent of injury. I then had to wait for the fracture to mend before the op could be scheduled.
To cut a long story short, nearly 3 weeks ago I had my ACL reconstructed using a graft harvested from my Hamstring.
I have never experienced pain like like it, excusing the pun it had me on my knees, or it would have done ifI was able to bend them!!!
But I have to say, with the exemption of stiffness (swelling) and the mental fear of using it, it does appear to be getting there. Within 6 months it should be 85%. It's a long process and I'm finding myself wistfully looking at trees wondering what it would be like to climb them.
On the bright side, apart from going insane in the house, at least I've kept fairly dry this winter
And I have to say, I'm pretty sure I can feel the knee already feeling more stable.
Here's the vid, it goes a little way to explain why it was so tender for a wee while.

We have a vacancy for a self-employed climber throughout March and April, minimum of 3 days per week.
Good quality work, based in and around the Canterbury area of Kent.
Any takers??
-
As the title says, we could really do with a contract climber for most of March and a bit of Feb. Possibly a 3 month contract? Based in Kent just outside of Canterbury.
Thanks

I have installed quite a lot of Cobra/Boa and had one constantly undo itself. I think the problem stemmed from too sharp an angle of the rope entering the splice. I moved the splice further away from the branch (ie made the entire branch loop bigger) and it never came undone again.
I've found that to be the case also.

That's how we roll.
I hear you broth! Same here

that doesn't look like Q. ceris bark to me.

A picture of the bark would be handy Q. ceris has very distinctive bark.

As the title says do you run out of wood to sell to customers?
Or could you do with even more log customers?
Just a'wondrin'

I had the GG AT2's and thought they were very good indeed, a good compromise of road manners and occasional off road grip. Got a new truck and fancied something else (variety being the spice of life!!) so went for some Toyo Open Country AT. I have to say, so far so good, had them only on the rears last winter and they were pretty damn good. Got them all round now, so I'm waiting for the snow!!

Just give me a bell if you need some gear to tide you over old chap.

Good thread.
There's the classic Cedar trick, comparing the branch form with the first letter of the species...
Atlas Cedar (Cedrus atlantica) = A = Ascending branch tips
Cedar of Lebanon (Cedrus libani) = L = Level branch tips
Deodar (Cedrus deodara) = D = Descending branch tips
That brings back memories of Tony Darbyshire and Dave Harris from Sparsholt in the late 90's. I remember that saying being used a lot.
It's a great way of remembering the difference on Cedars though

It can also be caused by sap leaking from underoccluded sites of severance.
aka nothing special. Yes indeedy worth a return check.
And perhaps scrub and rinse, to get a baseline for observations.
This I think is what the issue is, but we will keep check on it.

Psychopath Test by Ron Jonson. About a quarter of the way in, seems like a great read.

I'd say 30MPG out of a 3L auto is pretty good, that's what I get from the equivalent Hilux.

It is more in the south rather than SE. I will advise regular checks. Thanks for the help.

I think it's coincidence personally, we've seen these thousands of times before, it's just caught my eye on passing

Hello Ross. Hope you're doing well. Despite the fact it's in a pub garden there wasn't a distinct brewery smell!!!
-
If you had a grab lorry that would be ideal its in the ME13 area

Like the title says, looked at an oak last week, beaut of a tree, but as I walked away i noticed a slight drop in vigour of the crown on one side (I mean really slight) few small bits of dead and it had dropped a branch from this same sides in the high winds (could be coincidence) then I noticed this on the limb that the side with the less vigour grew from (hope that makes some sort of sense)
Any ideas/ theories?
Had better days!!!

Me too. Can't imagine how we all would have felt if the outcome were different. Doesn't bare thinking about.
Think I need a new truck now though.
