I wouldn't worry about short distance on hard standing, it is engaging the drive while turning at ends that wrecks the drive, really get annoyed when I see people spin it round with one hand and start the roller spinning halfway through the turn, let the ratchet work and drive in straight lines only ?

Give it a charge, I fitted a solar panel which does help, but still keep topped up. With lowering press the lower button twice, that helps, also make sure the manual dial thingy is wound the right way and all the way, or use that dial to lower, see if it's still slow.

All these lighter saws sounds great but won't it upset the balance? A 36" on a 660 is a little end heavy, if the saw was lighter it would feel worse, that's why I prefer to use 25"& 30" and longer only if really needed. Surely a 36" on a much lighter saw would feel weird?

Hi.
Just wondered what peoples thoughts are with using potato boxes for drying out logs? Keep debating it as they're around £70.00+new. Your feedback would be much appreciated. Cheers
We used them when I worked on a farm, were good and handy with a box tipper, just make sure you buy the heavier duty boxes, they used to be HK boxes 15years ago, the corner posts were bolted meaning the box held together, the cheaper ones used to lean when stacked and sides regularly fell off. Normally only meant to be stacked 8boxes high, well with a ton of spuds anyhow?

My father is a man of habit, his Husqvarna 254xp has just died and he is desperate for another as he insists that he dislikes the modern equivalent, apart from eBay is there anywhere else I can try and source him one? Thanks guys
Can see where he's coming from with auto tune carbs etc, but a 357 would be a good step up without being too modern, can get some good saws from Harry the cat on eBay?

My MK1 540 only vibes like that when I take the rakers down too much, rips through the wood though!

A little Saturday morning job on old faithful. 2005 L200. Been hearing the odd knock and found the rear shackle bushes looking pretty warn so switch them out. As you'd expect on a 13 year old truck it was all corroded and took so encouragement to get out!
Got greasable ones from Milner for £13. As repairs go this is refreshingly good value!
I put those bushes and greasable springs on a Hilux, were brilliant, were still as new after 10years of abuse when I sold it?

I would say hit it as hard as you like, it’ll come back.

Now is good.

Thought of the Weibang? They are great mowers, the pro 56 roller version picks up in the wet brilliantly. Heavy though at 70kg odd

The oil based bird brand superior wood preservative in green 5 litre tins, comes in different colours. Seems to repel water well.
With decking try some fungicide wash first, Wickes sell an unbranded one which is cheap and works, brush off crud, apply that then use a decking oil, two coats and should be done every year if you can ?

Who uses poles and a hook to get ropes in?
Have done, made a hook and rope holder for an old telescopic wolf pole, been great on some trees, a big lime full of epicormic that had been messed around with before a few months back I wouldn't have wanted to do any other way. Useful for setting tip rigging too sometimes. ?

Someone who can tie a running bowline, knows what to tie on your line before you ask for it. Oh and can let the rope run!!

Well done. They are great saws, my grandad had one new in 1983, regretted selling it for the rest of his life. Had a go with my 660 which in his words was "crap"?

This post has made me feel much better! I'm good at throwing but crap with a throwbag! Took an hour and a half on a big pine once, cutting only took half hour when I got up there. At the end of the day the gardener on site said a big ARB firm had spent 4hours trying to get a line up and left the job. Wish he told me that when I was throwing! APTA now, makes it so easy (if you avoid hitting deadwood over greenhouses!)?

Could be a knackered switch, but unlikely both forward and reverse be not working at same time. Maybe a loose connection?

Thought that was the forward latch relay (only affecting the forward rollers) I had the relay fail but only affected in feed not reverse. Unless there is another relay I’ve missed...
I think you're right. Been a while since mine went?
