  1. It makes me so cross seeing people do stuff like that. Firstly it must have taken ages to put the scaffold up. And the cost of the damage to the scaffold as well. Why not just pay a pro to do it. I hope he got a nasty shock when he realised how long it was going to take to clear up. ah ah... sorry for the rant, had a bad day in a conifer yestaday..
  2. heres the thread... http://www.wesspur.com/rope/bulk-prusik-cord.html
  3. Hi Jamie. On the Samson website it suggest for a eye and eye prusik cords a different splice that makes the cord the same diameter all the way along. I have just made one up with two locking brummels. But I might try this one as well http://www.samsonrope.com/site_files/Eye_and_Eye_Tail_Splice.pdf
  4. Am I right in thinking that standard tenex and the samson tenex a different in there heat resistance. I have just looked on the samson website and on http://www.wesspur.com and the description of the samson tenex is I quote "An extremely heat-resistant, 12 strand prusik from Samson that is easy to splice, has a soft feel, and makes great eye and eye tails. 80% Technora/20% polyester blend. 8,500 lbs. breaking strength". so to burn this rope out you would have to be doing the old SAS descent.
  5. cheers for the info mate. will see you at the APF.. got a lock jack clutch that i need to swop for a spider jack clutch. if you have one in stock. it would seem there not the same. will you have splicing tools at the show?
  6. thank for the intrest mate. Nod sold it to me, at the aa show. so going to give it back to him at the apf. thanks all the same.
  7. grate cheers mate. will get splicing.
  8. thanks for the link Master B. he has a grate video on his web site. this is the link of anyone else. http://www.splicesbynick.com-a.googlepages.com/videos its a real help. and peter you are right. it is the wrong splice. im guessing to make a eye and eye prussik cord, you just have one locking brummel eye at each end? thats my afternoon sorted. GRATE
  9. Hi all. Am trying to splice tenex. I have been using the Samson web site for the splicing instructions. Seems to be the best one. I can do a standard eye splice. As in the pic below but would like to find out how to make a shorter splice. For eye n eye Fritch cord. Just a note: it seems that all of the instruction say when make the measurements you should use a fid length. But witch one? They are all defend lengths. Do you use the one that you use to splice with? If any one has any good sites, books, or help. If would be grate. Thanks all PS: yes i know the eye splice in the pic it not finished..
  10. Hi all. Used the spider jack until the clutch started to slip. Tried to get a new clutch but got the wrong one. It has a different clutch to the lock jack. Have to say really liked the spider jack. Its a bit odd to use to start with but if you stick with it its will worth it... didn’t like the sand paper grip on it. As it rubbed on the metal work. put a bit of wood on to replace the sand paper.
  11. sorry your right steve. Tree Motion. Another plus side is the padding comes off. So at the end of a wet day you can pull the padding off and dry it out on the radiator. Nothing worse than a wet harness. Well apart from wet ropes I guess.
  12. I have a Treemagineers. I have a 32-34" waist. And there load of adjustment. Have even got my misses in it. and she is built like a rake. In my View the best harness out there..
  13. i use op 8mm. but find its not grate with the a vt. it tends to hold its shape. and then the vt dosnt lock, not so grate when you are at the end of a branch. thinking of trying some onther stuff. from (http://www.wesspur.com/rope/bulk-prusik-cord.html) £12 to post. but the cord is under half the price to he. good old USA.
  14. No just lots of looking on the net and i got myself a set of "selma fids" which had some instructions in the pack. Not the best instructions. Would love to go on a course. One of the skills i would love to have...
  15. not trees but this is what i did for about two hours on monday evening. not much i know but its my first spliced eye.
  16. thought this look handy. [ame] [/ame]
  17. I have been climbing for years. And I make a point of trying to use two hands on my saw. But we all know that some times it just isn’t possible. Now that’s fine for me to say that because in my head I weigh up the risk, and trust me I have better things to do than sit in the accident room with a big old gash up my arm. but I think the real problems is with the some of the younger climbers, with lack of experience and adder pressure to perform, using one hand is seen as a faster whey of getting the job done, and not better climbing technique. And that is how accidents happen. Is a shame that there isn’t more time to allow climbers to do a safer job.
  18. cool thanks for the link. be nice to pop back to flat old east anglia.
  19. hi all. Just wondering if anyone was thinking of entering into the "East of England Cutters and Climbers Competition 2008". I have never entered into a climbing competition before but i thought i would give it a go. just to see how slow i realy am!
  20. Yep it will work without a pulley. Because I use it with the long legs I don’t often have to use the self ascending properties of the knot. It’s not as smooth but if you have you hands full out on a limb, it works just fine. If I get a chance well try to sort out a vid this week.
  21. To be honest I’m a bit old school, have tried using a pulley but haven’t got the hang of it yet. Like you all know trying to fine time to try out new techniques is always hard.
  22. you must have shins of iron. 9 hours thats hard core.
  23. Here’s a new one for you. Like a VT but with a hitch on the bottom. Minimum of three raps on the top. I use it with long legs. Have it on shout legs with a pulley for my strop. It will also self ascend. If you pull up on the lower part of your rope. Been using it for a few weeks, not fallen out of the tree yet. any feed back on the hitch would be grate. THE KERSWELL HITCH
  24. not the best pics as the client took them but worth a look.
  25. hi there. i have one. And I think it’s a dam good harness. One of the few you can personalise. The senses of freedom you get from it is amazing. Down side is the price. But to be honest if you’re going to sit in it all day then its well worth the money.
