  2. id had looked at the ryobi stuff too to be honest, seems ok'ish and theres enough places that sell it so mustnt be too bad. cheers guys
  3. Cheers for the replies and info. Got a load to read up on now, thanks mike
  4. In fact maybe it'd be an idea to mush it up and put it in the milk of certain parts of Salford!!!
  5. sounds an extreme way of population control
  6. Just looking at getting a combi system, and judging by the money second hand stihl stuff goes for, tempted to try a cheapo of ebay 200 squids and you get brushcutter hedge trimmer and pole saw attachments. Has anyone tried one? Thinking if I get a year out of one and even at worse if the engine goes I'll still have the attachments, would they be the same as stihl ones? Any advice much appreciated. Cheers mike
  7. cheers mate , just cleared it, didnt realise it saved sent messages too!!
  8. hi i was speaking to someone the other week who said to work for them a s a contractor i'd need a h&s plan, he said i could just go to a consultancy and they'd sort it. what did you guys do? is it something i can do myself? cheers mike
  9. bump will have cscs too in the next week or too, will travel too. cheers mike
  10. I think nptc seems to be more accepted/known commercially. Myerscough don't seem bothered about the business twice now ive wanted to get on a course, been put down in a list and never heard anything. That might be the thing to do, where wiuld I get the schedule from? Cheers.
  11. Shed loads of trouble in relation to the number of cars now on the road? I think not. Give it a few more years and saw manufacturers will probably be forced into more electronics with emissions etc.
  12. thats what people would of said about fuel injection and electronic ignitions on cars!!
  13. Yeah cheers gareth!!! Everytime I've gone onto there site to look something up, I've come away even more confused! It's almost like their trying to trip you up!!!
  14. Cheers rupe, like I said no probs paying it, as it saves having a bill at the end of the year. But don't understand why some people want it and some don't. Out of the half dozen or so people I've worked for recently only 2 have wanted it. I think it's probably misleading being tied up with the cis card.
  15. Utr is used to collect tax from self employed subbies@20%. I've been employed like this before, but that to was arb work, not in construction.
  16. doing work for a new company and theyve asked for my utr no., its not a problem ive got it and not got a problem using it, but im just wondering if its necessary in arb work? as i thought it was a construction industry thing, hence being reffered to as cis number sometimes. cheers mike
  17. Hahaha, could be worse could be from Yorkshire!!! Seriously though, cheers mate much appreciated.
  18. Cheers mate gave them a ring, not got one planned yet, hopefully get back with a date .
  19. anyone reccomend somehwere for an nptc chipper course in the northwest-ish. tried tkf they want 140 quid plus 390 for an assesor for the day, myerscough havnt got one planned and parkside who havnt answered the phone yet. surerly somewhere must be running one. failing that does anyone want to jump on the tkf one with me and my mate would be 240 all in roughly with four people total. cheers mike
  20. u know mate, laughing aside i have thought of it! ive got a remote control for it so could wind it in from the tree but no way of doing the freespool lever. that said knowing my luck id go straight throught the raditor!!
  21. hahaha like i said its a bit of a pointless idea but it'd just save taking a climbing rope as generally i just spike a flip line up.
  22. Not sure what u mean mate, it's not a problem getting the cable up there, just looking for a way to get back down usin said cable.
  23. Another of my pointless ideas! Basically I've done quite a few trees where I've clinmbed up, put my winch cable up to pull it over, before depending on height I've either took my climbing rope up and came down on that or , naughty I know, held onto the cable as I've climbed down. Just wondering if there was a rope-grab-like device u could fasten onto the winch cable to descend with?
  24. Yeah, can't believe I can't find anything. Seems I've got two options, either upgrade to plasma winch rope which isn't worth it cost wise or give ur webbing idea a go, there will only be one or two strands at most so maybe I'm being a bit over cautios
  25. hi guys just wondering if anyone can suggest something to descend on a wire winch cable with obviously rope wont do due to any broke strands etc, would a normal rope grab work? can see them wearing quick due to them being alloy. cheers guys
