  14. I've got a '05 B2500 and it's never missed a beat. OK off road with mud terrains but still gets stuck due to no diff lock or lsd. It would also really benefit from a 6th gear but as work truck it's never let me down. Just have a second vehicle about if you're going seriously off road!
  15. I've looked at the Dmax too and it seems very good. Worth noting they are doing the Eiger model for about the same price as the standard doublecab at the moment but offer the workpack at a discount, so you get a tow bar, seat covers, rubber mats, load liner and BF Goodrich all terrain tyres for £999. Looks like an excellent deal. Pickup Trucks direct have a good finance offer as well.
  16. Yes, but I can't make too much mess or people won't be happy - SSSI etc. It's just I know an excavator will work from experience and it's a gamble spending £600 to hire one for the week if it doesn't do what I need. If it was a flat area I would be more tempted but because its around old workings and on a hill I'm just not sure!! Might go and see if I can have a look around one and then make a judgement. Cheers for the advice.
  17. Out of interest, which model have you got there Dean? Thinking of hiring one for a job and its a toss up between that or an excavator & grab for clearing up the brash.
  18. How good are these machines on uneven ground or a side slope? They don't look that stable??
  19. Looking for a scrub cutter/chainsaw operator to work with a small team based in the Haslemere area (Surrey), for work across the South Downs. Mostly cutting scrub on steep slopes, so needs to be fit and healthy. Ideally you will be self employed and MUST have relevant chainsaw certs for felling. A brushcutter ticket and spraying would also be useful although they're not essential. Must be hard working and able work in all weathers and on difficult terrain. Drop me a line with your experience and your day rates. Many thanks Tom
  20. Trust me the deer will not be put off your Hazel by the Dogs Mercury. They're not easily put off by a deer fence!!
  21. Looking for 2 self employed cutters for about 2 weeks work in Guildford area for felling in derelict coppice. Most of under storey already cut but all over storey still to do. Cut, burn brash and stack. Must be experienced and qualified and able to work without direct instruction. Immediate start
  22. My tractor simply has a grab on the front that can be used for moving timber, the rest of the tractor is standard agri spec.
  23. The best I've seen was a bulk bag of 'seasoned logs' that contained lumps of old creosoted sleeper. About 20% of the bag was made up with it. You could smell it before you saw it!
  24. I went through the SEEDA grant that was in conjuction with the Forestry Commission. Speak to your local forestry officer for information or advice.
  25. A lot of the grants are closing, but there is still money available in the southeast. I got a 50% of a 4x4 tractor paid for and various friends have had processors, splitters and trailers funded. If you don't ask you don't get!
