  1. Been to see a large Turkey oak with what appears to have small patches of ustlina? Around a third of the buttress and lower trunk appears to be softly decayed to a depth of around 50mm on the tension side of the lean. Unsure what’s happening beyond that. Also any comments/observation are welcome. Thanks

  4. Many years back I did my NPTC rigging, medium fell etc with Proclimber and found the training excellent:thumbup1:. A friend of mine did the fast track course a few years back. After gaining some good experience (approx 12months) with a local tree surgeon he then managed to get a job with the Local Authority as an arborist. I have spoken to the Local Authority as there was some competition for the vacancy and their view was if someone is willing to commit 5k on training they must really want to work in the industry. I guess this is true for many but not for all. If I was new entering the Arb industry I would have strongly considered attending the Proclimber fast track course.
  5. it turned out to be an hold chicken of the wood fungus (Laetiporus sulphurous). Thanks for everyones input. David, sorry if i have missed something but in the images you have attached I assume it's Grifola? thanks steve
  6. Hi, Has anyone seen Grifola fondosa 3-4 metres up a native oak tree? I havent but was wondering if this can occur? Thanks in advance, Steve
  7. NBN Gateway: Silky Rosegill (Volvariella bombycina) grid map Thought this site was interesting.
  8. Thanks, Had no climbing kit with me when I was in the area but may consider going back when the gills have turned colour.
  9. Hi, Had a tip off about this fungi. Silky Rosegill - Volvariella bombycina. I won’t pretend to say that I spotted/ID it but thought some of you would appreciate the pictures/link. It was found on a dead beech monolith in an area of ancient semi natural beech/oak woodland. Last spotted some 20 years ago in my neck of the woods. 10. Not an area I know much about but thought the photos were good on this website. Slime Moulds of Clyne Wood, Swansea
  11. If you’re submitting that many applications then no, and likewise you could not arrange to do pre-app for all of them. Some LA's do offer pre-app advice to try and discuss issues to prevent subsequent applications from being refused.
  12. Hi, I have posted a few of these pictures before on Arbtalk but thought I would put them up again. These pictures relate to some tree climbing work I have done for the RSPB. This work involved climbing trees in Nepal to reach vultures nests as part of a conservation project. If interested please visit the following web links: Home The RSPB: Saving Asia's Vultures from Extinction Nepal 2009 - Asian Vulture Conservation Project working with the RSPB
  13. wow only just noticed these pictures! nice one!
  14. 4 refusals in 3 years. I would suggest that you contact the Tree Officer for pre-application advice?
  15. I did the course through Guy Watson and found it very well delivered.
  16. Hi Been climbing for ten years. Last summer it was all starting to come together but illness has knocked me back. Hopefully i will be back out climbing the South Wales, Wye Valley area by the summer (Trad, Sports or Bouldering). If anyone if interested post me. Cheers steve
  17. This forum is great! thanks everyone. I should get on it more but do find myself spenting more and more time on the computer anyway!
  18. Hi, Sorry I have been slack and have not posted on the forum for a while. Any advice on this would be great. I have been told about a fine old Native Oak tree that apparently has Meripilus giganteus and is identified to be felled. I remember (?) reading about some rare occasions where this combination has been recorded? Also is there any record of a Native Oak tree failing at the base from Meripilus? I think this fungus may have been misidentified and is Grifola. Either or I am struggling with this. Thanks
  19. How do you deal with it? Small claims court?
  20. Hi, Spotted this interesting fungus. Its is growing on the side of an old hospital building under a group of copper beech trees, any idea? Thanks Steve
