the jansen looks like all the other Chinese rip offs. I wouldn't waste my money personally. the least you want is a good engine ie Honda and good build quality. I have recently got a haecksler and its an amazing piece of kit.

Worst job I ever had, took me 2 days and I only put a day on it. If I ever do one again I will double the quote and get a subbie in to climb it.

We need a Groundie with cs38 (climbing and rescue) to work in Rotherham. It's only for a couple of weeks, but I'm not sure there will be more work in the future. Please pm me ASAP for more details. Many thanks.

you didn't set it right a knute is like silk, and just as easy to advance as a vt and maybe dare i say it smoother to descend on!!
probably not, i tried to make it as short as possible to minimize sit back.
-
very grippy, ive found it harder too pull slack thro it then a vt.

nice work mate

I get them roughly to size with a chainsaw then turn on lathe or I've got a small bandsaw that does the smaller stuff. Saw mill will be ok but dont know what they would charge???.
i know the guy who has a saw mill so it wont be much. what are the chucks than? are they for holding bowls by their bases? nice bowls by the way, how long would it take me to do bowl like that being a complete novice?
-
what about preparing the logs for turning? i was thinking of taking my logs to a saw mill to have him make them into turning blanks, is this necessary?
-
I pulled the slack through but it is self tending because no hands need touch the friction hitch. I know what you mean bill, true self-tending requires no persuasion but to do that you have to distance the hitch from your central life support quite considerably.
self tending seems to mean different things to different climbers. for me self tending means you pull your rope down and advance up the rope with the slack passing thro the knot and the pulley. ive never managed to do it and i guess its only possible with a hitch that collapses when its not under tension and you have to be so high the weight of the rope pulls the slack through.

i did some work on a big yew the other day and collected some nice pieces. im a bit wary about turning yew as its poisonous, but i haven't read that its problem. ive read that its a good idea to practice on softwoods and then use the nice stuff when you know what you are doing. im on the lookout for a lathe. i cant find any info on using green or seasoned wood, so green wood will warp then?

i wont touch another electric splitter.
-
blake hitch very rarely jams? they tighten up all the time.
-
when you say you 'advanced it with the pulley' what does that mean? did it self tend or did you pull the slack through?
-
im going to buy a lathe and try my hand at woodturning. is there anyone here that can give me some advice?
-
tried the vt hitch climber and cant get on with it. the vt is a long knot and making small adjustments in height is more hassle then a blakes. ive also never got the system to self tend. also if i had a fall, id rather have a blakes stop me then a fishemens. putting a pulley on the cambium saver is a better idea. im going to try the metal setup next.

Also, something I've noticed in the instructions that you get with the harness is that the attachment bridge and each side D ring are only rated to 15kN. This seems quite low to me considering most karabiners are rated to 30kN. Any comments.
your not meant to hang off your side d's anyway.

dont do it if you live in sheffield, they are doing jobs for peanuts there.

i had one last week full of creepers, now that was grim.

I don't get how it works. Will my friction hitch self tend as well as with the hitch climber and can i use it wthout a spliced eye? Do I need an oval caribenner and does it work with the new yale acid blamonge pole 7.4 mm friction string. Which hole does it go in and is Lubrication required.
Moo Ha Ha ha ha

what are the hydraulic sockets called on a tractor? i need to find out if this tractor has the right connectors.

I have recently got hold a haecksler from Jim Upson. I can not fault this machine, it smashes through the brash! its only 70cm wide, Honda engine and is built in Europe. It costs £3200 plus vat, I got one on lease from arblease and don't regret it for one minute. fantastic bit of kit that's build to last.
