  1. Now that's a well constructed arguement with no trace of knee-jerk, anti-establishment tantrums. I have no idea as to the FCs motives - maybe they are panicking that the forests will be stripped clean by the poverty stricken masses. Who knows - I agree its unlikely to be any real hazard fears. I wasn't even aware that "the common man" (there's a term for solicitors to argue about for hours!) had a right to graze the forests for deadwood. I doubt there were many who were aware of its existence. On that basis, I find it depressing that the first reaction was to rail against the inequities of modern living.
  2. There is a certain flavour to the political underbelly of this protest - and I for one think its unproductive and negative. Its for the courts to decide on the legality of the policy, not armchair posturing.
  3. Yeah. The omniscient google tells me that was on DavidIcke.com... Bang goes the credibility of that reference...
  4. Andrew, A colleague of mine is undertaking some research just this very topic. Do you know of any existing research on this matter??? Cheers
  5. Oh well. Can't say that was a right I exercised much. Anyone here disadvantaged by this horrendous infraction on personal liberty???
  6. Indeed, I would like to thank you all for guaranteeing a percentage of my mortgage... Cheers
  7. Presumably these climbers have just been churned out from a nice cosy college...
  8. There are different diplomas! Check out the attachment in this recent thread: - http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=3838 And specifically: - http://www.trees.org.uk/qualleaf_full.php
  9. It says "Content not available outside of the United States..."
  10. Sorry, you've lost me again. Might help to talk it through slower - it 'd help me, anyone else who's reading and make it easier for the site/google software to find search terms for the future...
  11. Bear with me 'cos im rusty (and a wee bit hungover)... If the system is static and the load has been applied (i.e., via the GRCS) then the pulley on the piece to be lowered (pulley A) experiences the greatest load because the angle is approx 180. To my mind it doesn't matter how well the load is spread over the rest of the tree past pulley B because in placing A within the system and tying back to the same limb with the running bowline focuses the forces back onto that limb. Depending on the leverage that could be a problem?!?
  12. Ok, but I suppose that there are implications for the load placed on the anchor limb. Regardless how the load is transferred above the piece to be lowered, the angle is tightest at that point, near 180 as it comes down???
  13. Uh-huh, I getcha... That wouldn't be static though would it?? If it was static you'd never lower it to the ground...
  14. Any clues as to what on earth this means???
  15. I would suggest that the impact of the reduction would depend specifically on how high they were to begin with... For example; reducing a 15m C. lawsoniana by 2.5m is a minor tickle at about 15%. Taking a further 75cm is another 5%. However, if they were only 5m in height to begin with... I would also suggest that one of the problem it might cause is a waste of time. Why 75cm?? Why have you been asked to reduce your own trees??? LPA served a high hedge enforcement notice on you????
  16. Ha Now whos splitting hairs!!!
  17. I wonder if the rubbish statistics that get collected on chainsaw accidents show any trend regarding bar/saw size??? I would have thought that the bigger the bar, the harder it is to cut yourself!?! We'd run a 4ft bar on the 3120 and I reckoned that was about as safe as a saw could be. It was too heavy to kick back. When you slipped, gravity took over and it went to ground. Compare that with an MS200T...
  18. Man, I type slow. Don' t mean to look pedantic just didn't anticipate the other replies!!!
  19. 119cc if I remember right. I think the 88 is 122??
  20. Once put an 18" bar on a Husky 3120XP - Unstoppable! (we'd blunted and seized everything else and so had to go into Arb-McGuyver mode!) Rubbish on fuel though!!!
