  1. There was lots going on Dave, I just didn't get to see any of it. Some info here: TCIA | TCI EXPO | 2010
  2. Great event, very well organised. Lots of dedicated tree people there. Although I didn't really get to leave the booth, hopefully Nick Potts will post some photo's when he gets back.

    Oak crane removal

Thanks all. Ben that was Mitchels job. Yes everyone worked hard on the job and the site was spotless at the end, on a whole I'd mark us at 6/10. Appologies for not partaking in other people's threads for a while. Its not that I dont appreciate the work or issues in question, just that I seem to have run dry of opinion more recently. Thanks again
  4. The description of this job is in the picture forum. We were a little rushed on the day. Thanks [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_g_yTcnEmPU]YouTube - Oak tree crane removal[/ame]
  5. Thanks all, I agree, but thats down to the LA, and unlikely that a single tree hidden from public view would pass the criteria for a TPO, right or wrong.
  6. Thanks. I do lots of different types of work, whatever is required. Large or small, pruning and removal. Same as the next man. The big logs made it to the mill, the small stuff went to the local firewood suppliers. Yes I did get some video (above and below), although haven't had time to look at any yet so Stevie I dont know exactly what is on there for the moment. Marc, with the vetical cuts, yes its straight through....the hook and sling position is what makes it work, or not. The limbs can be different so you do have to be prepared to pull out the saw fast and cut from a different direction from time to time. You just have to watch closely, concentrate and make your adjustments....whether that be sawing or with the jib, whatever is needed. One things for sure, non of it ever happens automatically, everything must be thought through. 4 ton in that short piece at the end, I had to cut the slings in to be certain.
  7. Oak tree removal yesterday. It is often said that crane work is easy.....well, this was actually quite a tough job. I didn’t leave the site until near 7pm and was done-in. Apart from shedding a couple of large limbs more recently this was a perfectly healthy and grand specimen....but there was clearly something wrong with the owners who found it intolerable, and wouldn’t be convinced otherwise. So that was that. Here a bunch of photo’s, although there were many more lifts and too many similar photo’s to choose from. Thanks

    Ecos crane vid

Tim, that was just the stabalizers popping their attachments as the peice was layed down. The main load bearer (choker) was actually set on much thicker wood further down. The only bad thing was that the crane got jerked around a little as the weight got transfered as shown in the clip....although at such a close distance and with that particular crane its storm in a teacup really. Ben, I look forward to it.

    Ecos crane vid

Here’s one from a job earlier in the year folks, where I did a one-off crane-job for a company called Ecos, a bunch of Lombardy poplars, easy stuff really. The company mainly do work in woodlands and remote areas, hence the little tracked chipper you’ll notice. Nice bunch of guys though, everyone cool and relaxed throughout. Unfortunately much of the footage and as it turned out, my camera, due to the rain in the early part....but I still got enough to show some close-up cutting and lifting. Much the same stuff in other words. Its actually taken me until just recently to put the footage together. Thanks Part 1: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9YwWjaaJ-8]YouTube - Ecos tree removal part 1.[/ame] Part 2: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_1sUcyhVdY]YouTube - Ecos tree removal part 2[/ame]

John, didn't realise you were a member. The hand is numb but ok, thanks. Should have taken those gloves you offered me, you must have a sixth sense. Better luck tomorrow!

    Pine Craning

Dave is cool, and has been through-it a few times now. The other day He had one flip on him and the crane op had to react fast to stop him getting lashed by the brush.... instead sweeping out the gutters on the roof. Tom, 4:1 sounds reasonable, but why not just agree to cut smaller. Sounds like up-selling to me. Today went to crap. The wind really messed up everything, had the 50t there and then half way through the job I tried to spear/freefall a branch while waiting for the hook to return, the wind got it and it fell on top of me and wacked my fingers. Couldn't barely undue the shackle after that let alone climb or start the saw. End of job for the day, only half finished.

    Pine Craning

No I just climbed out there and hung on to the slings, it wasn't too far. The crane was 25t, and we were at full stretch as usual. Tomorrow Ive got to crane 4 poplars....dreading it as Im as rough as hell tonight. If I dont perk up by morning its going to be a struggle. Thats basically it Dean

    Pine Craning

Probably 90% of my cuts have always been straight through Dean, depending on the crane operator. Steven, sounds like 80-100 at least. Thanks

    Pine Craning

The last 6 cuts from a job earlier this week. Gibbon, the picture from the general tree photo's the other day is the 3rd in the video I believe. Thanks [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwTOWDKHEwk]YouTube - Pine tree craning.[/ame]
  16. It was an awkward shape, the whole thing. I'll sort out the video when I get some time.
  17. Yeah I did get most of it on the helmet-cam Dom, although I often run it for the liability aspect where cranes are involved. I have lots of stuff like that just stuffed in a draw. I have a few more crane jobs this month, maybe I'll stick them all together in the same vid. Sometimes having lived the job on a given day, I just cant bear to watch it through again on the video.
  18. Today we did a tricky pine. Even though we used a crane, my gear is was still totally gunked up with resin by the end. 1.8 ton in that pick, we were at full stretch most of the day.
  19. You know Rog, Mr Good actually offered to ship me out a GRCS to keep in return for making him a video. Obviously I had a conflict of interest there but still mulled and pondered over it for quite some time, if only I could make the video but disguise my identity. In the end I had to let it go, much to my disappointment. You win some you lose some!
  20. The Stein will out-muscle both of those two and you can take that to the bank....two volvo's at once, one on each bollard. Made in Manchester, what more could you ask for!
  21. Likewise Theocus, thankyou. Yes he came back in a total flap, you can only imagine his sense of relief thereafter!
  22. The price of UK manufacturing I'm afraid. I wish it could be different but we dont want any returns, hence they are built proper, like the LDs. Dragging and/or carrying usually figure in almost every day-to-day tree job, in which case the trolley potentially become's a major attribute, and not just for occasional use. The guys that have used it for real, like I said, the feedback has been terrific. If I'm right you'll be smiling within within the first couple of loads. For those who dropped by at the APF, thankyou for your interest and for making the 3 days go that little bit quicker....sorry I'm so bad with names and faces. Glad to be home:thumbup1:
  23. No one will have to adapt anything, it will be sorted you have my word. I dont want anyone feeling unsafe for the sake of a minor alteration. Thanks again.
  24. Where are my manners, thanks for your imput:thumbup1:
  25. Of course it was nonsensical Rupe, I was kidding, I thought the eye gouging part would have given that away, please credit me for not being a total simpleton. I thought we'd moved on from this....did you read how the post ended? Guys cant co-ordinate themselves to walk backwards on a tree-site....I am at a loss for words, no offense brother:thumbup1:
