I disagree, it's not all down to greed (money), it's down to having the necessary resources to do the job properly; the people I know who work in the NHS do it because they genuinely want to help people, they've all got degrees and could likely get a better paid job in a similar or even dissimilar field if they wanted to. It seems odd to me that nobody employs people who can do your job in your sector on a full-time basis, but I know very little about offshore gas/oil exploration. I've been on the books for a firm for six months now and it's because it's a business that functions, in a few months I'll probably go back to being self employed as I prefer the freedom self-employment allows me.

I agree that the NHS needs a shakeup. People are already losing their lives due to the state of the NHS, that's not going to get better without a significant improvement in things. Thankfully the last time I was in A&E was last year when I managed to skewer my calf on a tree, that was an 8hr wait but to be fair it was a Saturday and it was only an accident, not an emergency. I wouldn't say that unions are 'enjoying' this, I think it's shite that the majority of NHS staff round here support the strikes so there has to be something fundamentally wrong. If you'd like to be able to strike then perhaps you should go on the books and take advantage of all the *cough* advantages...

It does seem extreme but the odds are you'll die in an ambulance before you even make it to A&E, if you even get an ambulance... Strikes are supposed to be disruptive, hopefully this will get them better pay and conditions, it wasn't that long ago that people were writing murals on the streets in support of our NHS.

I survey trees on behalf of nationwide clients, when tree works are specified as an outcome and the client wants a recommendation for a suitable firm I will point them in the direction of a firm I know (if I happen to have local knowledge) and/or to the AA website. I am a professional member of the Arb Association but that doesn't sway my decision making in terms of sourcing contractors.. If I was to get into contracting again and I wanted a slice of the commercial pie I would strongly consider AA accreditation, it's not that arduous to achieve if you already have good practices in place and shouldn't cost more than a days income to achieve. It depends what you want to do.

Many useful documents are easily located if you type the name of them into a search engine and add ".pdf" to the end of the search string.

Ah well, we're never going to see eye to eye on this one. At the end of the day we all do what we can to better our lives and the lives of our loved ones. Different strokes for different folks.

I chose to go self employed years ago in order to create a better work life balance, I was also going out with an accountant at the time who made sure I wasn't paying more tax than necessary. If I'm guilty of tax avoidance I'm sure The Rev will get back to me in good time. I'm currently on the books for a firm and still pay for an accountant. Ha ha OK, sorry for being concerned about the plight of the most vulnerable in society based on the evidence available at the time.
