  1. Come on guys, the total is looking very wimpy really...
  2. I know that area well, did a lot of work in that area for SCC and SWT.
  3. Gees the 87 Storm, I was 10. Lived in Hampshire and woke upto carnage. School was closed for 2 weeks and I spent that 2 weeks working with my Dad pulling enormous trees out of the Basingstoke Canal. I was the one driving the excavator I had such a brilliant childhood working in the woods with my old man. Gave me the skills I take for granted today. I loaded a long reach Hymach over the side of a low loader at 15 lol We had Danarms but the best was a little light weight echo which was a revoloution.
  4. Buzz

Thought i'd ask you to be my friend ! Sad isn't it lol ;)

  5. Connor was giggling at the 12' whale cock waggling around lol ! Yes I've had a very quiet New Year and Christmas really. Or though i did get truly wankered xmass night after drinking yards of lager
  6. I watched the Blue Whale episode with the kids a couple of days ago. Awesome. Blue Whales humping lol.
  7. Oh and corrosion is a HUGE issue with wet chip.
  8. Surely though you will be using so much of the heat in the boiler to combust the fresh chip coming in that it will be very very ineffcient even if you do have access to large amounts of chip ? Tradtional problems with woodchip fired installations are chip quality as the infeed systems are frankly crap and jam up all to easy. If the chip infeed is automatic and it jams while your at work your going to have either a very cold house and no hot water or a broken boiler. Personally and I know it's a ball ache i'd stick with log burners if i had access to free wood.
  9. I used to live in Farnborough HANTS right under the landing line for the international airshow. While doing paperwork everytime i heard something interesting go up i'd rush out into the back garden to watch it's display. Q the Typhoon a quick dash out of the patio doors into the garden and the first poo of the day squishes through my toes. Lesson to be learned there !
  10. Ha think yourself lucky, Boxing day am the mother in laws house, dog has insane runs everywhere at 7am and that's with me with a hangover.... Roll forwards to 4am last night same thing, and 8am this morning. Nothing like mopping up dog shite in bare feet in the early hours
  11. I've done it, very embarrased i haven't done it this year until now as well........
  12. There's a tear in my eye after reading that, I can handle most things but not when it comes to Children. Something every parent can relate to i think. Keep up the good work. I couldn't do it .........
  13. A friend of mine did the 10 week course at Merrist Wood and it's a good starting step. There was a guy there just getting out of 22 at the time and they paid for him to do the course and time off etc. He was retiring though rather than leaving if you know what i mean. I should have made clearer the fact that yes it is important to get experience of the industry before wasting HM funds ( ) on trainning courses that will take you nowhere. Get some time in with a good local firm and see if it's for you. Times are rough but there are sectors of the industry that are very good at this time. Don't suppose you knew a Dave Smith in 42 about 5 years ago ? He was a mate of a mate and a good laugh, got out early as well. Best of Luck. Matt. With regards to me: > 16 years in this and related industries. Vocationally trained but did time at Merrist Wood over a four year period as well. Ran my own business for > 7 years. Tree work and machinery is in my blood so fairly easy to get to grips with it for me.
  14. A friend of mine bought a baby husqy with it on and i found it quite difficult to get the correct chain tension for him. Awful feature IMO.
  15. Maybe but i'd always employ ex-forces personnel over some of the muppet new starters from Tescos I've had the pleasure of. A lot of firms will be after cheaper staff with the required attitude i'd see it as an opportunity. The guy will get trained for free after all.
  16. Suprised you didn't block him in the yard then lol
  17. Heh mate, nip up the A3 to Guildford and have a look at Merrist Wood College as well. The ten week tree surgery course would be a good heads up for you and would give you enough tickets to get a start. Might as well use that resettlement grant for something worthwhile. There is digs there to live in if you don't fancy the trip each day. You all ready have the right skill base to do well in this industry (ex-forces) so i'd concentrate on getting some hands on experience. Pretty good money to be made as a contract climber it's finding those postions with little or no experience that will be your hurdle. Try looking for decent companies in your area and approach them for some gratis work experience if you can.........Good Luck
  18. PM me how much and where you found it mate
  19. Very nice Peter but why on earth has it been delivered to Ed's !! lol
  20. Sounds like AHS we have a site in Peterborough.
  21. Hmmmm vouch for Ed ?? Guess i would at a push lol !!
  22. Lot of things you don't know about me Steve lol
  23. I have owned two Mogs from Frank, one was great and i spent little on it, the second destroyed my business. My biggest mistake - not getting Ken Day to give it the once over because I was in a hurry and impatient. As Stuart says play the game and you'll get a good piece of kit from Atkinson Vos, A C Price has fantastic Mogs if you have the money but personally i think there is far far better kit out there for that sort of (>40k) money i.e Valmets like Shrek's or a decent wagon. I saw a Bedford the other day in my travels in great nick with a 12" PTO chipper hard mounted to the back. Cost the owner less than 14k to build and is uber reliable.
  24. I could probably help Scott and will be looking at consultancy work for myself in the New Year. I have no experience of QTRA but I'm not an idiot and I'm sure we could work something out. I'm based in Rugeley Staffs. PM me if I can be of any help.
  25. Stevie PM Chris Sheppard on here i looked into them a while ago and he deals in them as well as having run one himself.
