    Rigging Errors

Reg, I'm shocked and dismayed to find such language used on a worksite. I think it is highly unprofessional and may well put off youngsters from entering our profession. After all, what innocent 16 year old school leaver has such words in their vocabulary?
  2. I use the black diamond ice clippers Very similar to the Caritool but without the hook on the back, so they dont stay at right angles to the harness quite so much. I can clip and unclip the saw one handed, been using them for at least 6 months and I havent broken one or lost a gate yet. I put a tight rubber band on the wire gate to help keep it on. Ice tool holders are rated at around 5kN, enough to handle a saw, I put my 441 on them, but they will break if a lowering line got clipped in there accidentally. Something to consider if you use a carabiner rated at 22kN or more, you could get pulled out of the tree by a big chunk on a lowering rope.
  3. poor quality pic but its then only one I can find
  4. Bet none of them venture out in Chester after dark!
  5. Fine looking beech
  6. If its Winchester its more than likely Sparsholt.
  7. In the first pic, it looks like he is anchored right at the top of the pic, in the centre of the tree, and has redirected through the fork. Could be wrong though.

  9. Would that not make things even more confusing? If stihl changed every time you picked up a stihl chainsaw for the next ten years you would have to remember whether it was a pre change or post change model, and if you needed to stop it in an emergency chances are you would get it wrong.

Er, isnt it the weekend already?
  11. You'll be lucky to find a TM anywhere at the moment. If you really want to find one, why not put a post up on here asking if there is anyone in your area who has one that would let you try it out. I think the TM is the most comfortable leg loop harness around at the mo, although you may need some time to get it adjusted right.

    Handsaw

Well done on getting to the masters, as for forgetting your saw, hahaha!
  13. The leg loops need to be pretty tight to prevent testicular ingress. I have heard the magic is bad for inadvertent castration though. Are you not near Proclimber or Severnside?

Yes, I spotted that little dig, but I let it pass.

  16. If you cant afford to buy a decent climbing line then you should charge a bit more, or find another industry.
  17. You can use a slack tender pulley in a similar way, pull a bight of rope from under your hitch, attach branch, lower it yourself, get the groundie to disconnect it and send the sling and biner back up on the same loop.
  18. Dont really see why, lowering a small branch that weighs less than a chainsaw, in a controlled way that doesnt shock load the rope.

Thank you Bob, you'll be happy to know you have the priviledge of being my 36th friend.

  20. Ah, with you. So you never use your climbing line for any load other than a person? For instance, if you needed a large saw in the tree, you wouldnt ask your groundie to tie it to the tail of your rope and pull it up?
  21. Care to elaborate on this stimulating and informative post?
  22. There is a market for poplar, chip and log, AHS recycling will take it. Cue Buzz
  23. To speedline small pieces of of a tree you are reducing, get your groundy to hold the tail of your climbing line tight and at head height, sling the piece up and run it down on a biner.
  24. Try as many as you can, keep an open mind about the style of harness, and I'm sure you'll find a winner. So much choice. The skylotec is a good harness, so is the sequoia, and the treemotion. Not a big fan of the newer komet harnesses myself. The Heightec Bee is worth a look too.

    My new toy.

The elastic bands did the trick, they should last at least a week!
