I bought an old husqvarna 2100 that had blown the stock can apart, I read online a stihl 090 ally can was easily modified to fit and helped performance on the 2100,s so I bought a couple, successfully fitted on the 2100, I then found the a100 and the original can was present but in a really bad state, I intend to rebuild it but wanted to run the saw, so I fitted the other 090 can on that, it runs very well with it. I have now ordered a few more 090 cans as they are very adaptable to many of the larger saws.

top one is a Jonsereds 60, and the lower one a 49sp good saws both, very reliable.

my guess would be most injuries are caused by idiots who have absolutely no idea about operating any type of chainsaw, no idea of safety procedures, no ppe, no awareness of anything around them, I gave a talk on saw safety and use as a prep to the upcoming basic test. a few of those claimed to have used chainsaws previously and yet knew nothing of tension and compression when making cuts, and some of these failed regardless of my efforts, I spoke to the tester after, in his opinion two individuals in particular stood out,[not any of mine] one of whom thought it perfectly ok to use a husqvarna 55 single handed above his head. the other arrived to do the test in shorts and tee shirt claiming he would get the required safety gear if he passed. someone lent him their gear to complete the test and he failed it, it was painful to observe. nothing I had taught him had sunk in. of those that failed most gave it a second try, and paid more attention to the requirements and passed, others gave up and never bothered, I know one of those failures injured himself at a later date cutting down a tree for a neighbor with no ticket at all. the problem will be in time the idiots will dictate the level of restrictions on purchasing and operating saws and probably any similar equipment. anyone can be the victim of an accident, but with good instruction and a willingness to think and listen the chances can be almost eliminated. but never drop your guard with trees. I just remembered, there were a couple of videos[no dvds back then,or internet] I had been given to show on days too wet for safe work, one was a promotional video by Husqvarna obviously promoting their range of equipment, with a lesser part on safe use. the other was an american video of actual accidents involving chainsaws, I recall it was pretty graphic, the narrator showing many incidents nothing short of comedic at first sight but becoming deadly serious in their conclusion, often resulting in horrific injuries, blurred out in the final seconds, these were all filmed by neighbors and helpers on hand held cine cameras. To illustrate the effectiveness of a chainsaw on flesh at full chat, he had a steer carcass on a meat hook suspended from the roof and promptly warmed up the saw and then in one fast move cut the steer in half diagonally in seconds, "this is what a chainsaw can inflict on human flesh in the wrong hands" it was a feckin' real eye opener to everyone their, but it certainly made the point, he then demonstrated on a model the effectiveness of chainsaw pants as the yanks call them, the saw never made contact with the dummy, jamming the saw very efficiently. I wish I still had the videos but I had to return them .

majority of them, yes, the pioneer nu 17 needs a coil, one of the smaller pioneers needs a carb conversion, as parts don't exist for the original, I have cut with most of them. If I got a call today to fell I could probably fuel up a dozen or more suitable for just about anything that needs to come down, I'm retired now so it doesn't happen often. this year one has been earmarked for felling, I will probably get involved with that but it's going to involve a climb and I don't do that at 72.

ok, another tale of John. back when I was still working I would occasionally fell a few trees for a local landscaping outfit, I would usually get John a few days or more work, he was despite everything a good worker, he was still driving at that time so I got him on my lorry insurance, we would generally get the wood for nothing and we would sell a bit for firewood here and there and keep Johns mum in wood for the year, if we had plenty of spare after that any proceeds would get put in a jar for a bit of a night out at the end of the year, so one Christmas we all go for a slap up meal and a few,, beers. so we're all at Johns waiting for the minibus to pick us up and there's a knock on the door, thinking it was the minibus and being closest I said " here we go" and made my way to the door, I opened it and there's this woman and a bloke standing there?, " are you the minibus we ordered?" "no , Do you live here"?the woman said. "No hold on I'll get him for you" and I gently closed the door and went and told John, "what do they want" he says, "I don't know I never asked, go and ask them" I go back to the others and John goes to the door, when he opens it there's 3 people there,one is the minibus driver, plus the mystery pair, So John shouts "minibus is here" everyone is now standing in the hallway and John says "who are you two"? the woman announces,, "we're collecting for the local swimming pool, would you like to donate"? John says " I'm now going out but ok wait there" and disappears back into the house, we continue to board the minibus, so we're wait for John and the door opens and he steps out gives the woman a bucket of water, "There you go" and leaves them on the doorstep. we were almost at the restaurant before the driver stopped laughing. we had a great night out, next time I'll tell you what happened at the restaurant.
