Redwood timber

Hi i have a big 110ft wellingtonia to dismantle end of december time, in norwich norfolk, just wanting to no if its of any value to people as i see alot of carvers etc useing it. Its all going to be ringed down unless someone wants it ill crane it onto lorrys. Pics to follow im on my phone at the minute its 5-6ft across at the bottom, single stem, dead straight.

Poor you. That is a world of pain dismantling them!

 

i wanted the job, really looking forward to it. its easy climbing and rigging it, i wouldnt fancy being on the ground lifting all the timber about though! might hire a bobcat skidsteer in for a day. depends if im feeling mean that day or not :001_tt2:

prob want some long gaffs on your spikes mate as the bark is really thick and brakes away, looks a great job tho im sure your have fun, how many days you got on the whole job thats with removing timber?

 

Well either 2 days if i use a crane to pick the timber or ive allowed 4 days to dismantle it and remove it all by hand with 3 of us.

Redwood timber when green is incredibly heavy. It's almost all water, though it is amazing how quickly it dries out. I'd go for any and all lifting equipment you can hire!

 

I priced in a little swing lift half ton hiab for my truck to lift stuff onto the trucks so shouldnt be to bad drive right upto the tree.

Have you found this from experience ?

 

The only biggun I've dismantled was fine with normal spikes, even lower down (top of the ladders) I didn't have a problem.
