Are the famous transits the best all rounder?

My Transit has been very reliable 2010 2.4 mwb rwd 115 bhp , had a Van Tuner remap so it goes well , the van has had one front wheel bearing , 2 anti roll bar links and a set of discs in 95k , 27mpg average which is not bad as it is a service van so it is heavy ..

A friend of mine works for the electronic board and they use the merc 4x4 vans so I'll ask him for you

He did tell me the boys are happier with the Hilux cherry pickers over the defenders resonantly and was going to mention the merc 4x4 panel vans as I like the look of them

If there select 4WD they shouldn't be to far away from the normal vans

I think your probably right. I would expect a normal sprinter to do 30 on a good day the 4x4 about 25 mpg. The 4x4 I think is still driving the prop round and it sits a bit higher. Off set that against its versatility it looks a great vehicle.

Spoke to mate, and the merc,s are liked the 4WD system is good but would be better on mud with better tyres, take the weight well and apart from being a bit higher they are the same as the run of the mill vans and not noticeably different from the normal vans on diesel but bear in mind there V6 turbos diesels so average 25 mpg give or take

Hope this helps

Thanks for the info. I think they stopped fitting the v6 in the vans about two years ago. 25mpg would be great but would expect less. They just have to prise my Amazon away from me know.
