That's really lovely Woodcrafter, what is it finished in?

 

 

Thanks Chris its Liberon decking oil 6 coats over 3 days would have liked to give it one more but ran out of time.

I prefer Liberon as its a little thicker, you can brush it on, it absorbs into the wood well and multiple coats gives it glossy finish.

No it was from a cracked out cedar limb from last winter so it's only had this summer to dry. I carve a lot of green coniferous wood. The pieces I've treated with the Liberon tend not to split as much as the oil is absorbed and once a good few layers are built up its sealed. The oil has uv protection in it which also helps it doesn't dry like a shell as varnish does it's quite flexible if that makes sense. I'm not an expert on it, I just find that seems to work best for me.
