Thanks, I'm enjoying it!

If I remove the pith and fill it in at a later date with a peg would i avoid splitting do you think?

 

I would leave it for now as the center is basically like a sponge so any shrinkage or movement should be absorbed by that, if you talk out the middle now it might move to much (If you see what i mean).

I would love to do stuff like that but the neighbours would have a mental.

i have some monkey puzzle in kiln at work (kit drying room)

really looking forward to trying them

 

Be careful if you turn it on a lathe because the knots in monkey puzzle are very hard and have been known to talk big chunks out of a turning gauge before.

thanks for the tips guys, I need them at the moment, it has been a bit of a battle!

been working on this bit of yew the last couple of days, gonna sit a bit of glass on the top for a coffee table but i'm having some probs with it splitting, it'd been in the garage for 6 months, i've taken the sap wood off it and given it loads of oil but i'm worried i maybe should have left it alone for another 6?
