Hi all

I'm wanting to build a big log store. Needs to be strong and not too scrappy! So I'm thinking pallet floor, big corner posts (sweet chestnut?) sunk into the ground, larch or similar frame to join the posts together and put a divider or two in (so I can have several bays), and plastic corrugated (UV stable) roof sheets for the roof. (I want plastic as the area is fairly shaded by trees, so want to make the most of any sun).

Can anyone point me in the direction of a good supplier for quality durable wood and reasonably priced roof sheets, ideally near Chepstow? I don't want to go to B&Q or whatever and get their overpriced crappy pressure treated pine...

Cheers,

Giles

Hi Sandpiper,

Don`t know about wood suppliers near you as I`m many miles away ... but for your roof it`s worthwhile going for fibreglass `Filon` sheets as they are very strong, more expensive but will last a long time, & not those lightweight plastic jobs that crack after a couple of years.

No worries, close enough!

Thanks. I was thinking of plastic to get any drying / warmth benefits from what little sun will get to it. I assume cement sheets are fairly hefty and thick?

I've seen various plastic sheets that are supposedly UV stable, guaranteed for 10 years etc.

I put a metal roof on mine because that's what I had. More sun hits it from the side than above and the wind dries it more than the sun where it is.

The site I have for mine is a clearing among trees, so not that much sun or wind either I fear... But it's the only suitable site! I'd take a metal roof if I had metal, but I'd like to make the.most of any sun going.
