Rubber Guard material?

Stumpy Grinder
 Share

Recommended Posts

I keep having to replace the rubber guard skirts around the stump grinders and I'm beginning to wonder what the best material is for the job?

I'm currently using 3mm 'Insertion Rubber' which is reinforced with nylon thread, but it doesn't seen to last very long. My Alpine Magnum has what looks like very thick polythene sheet which seems quite durable. I've seen similar material used for industrial door screens where it hangs in long strips to allow vehicles and people through. There must be something better out there? Any ideas as a good replacement alternative?

Old Conveyor belt from a quarry, if you can get it. Cut it with a jigsaw, drill and bolt on. Will outlast the machine by many years. Will be 10mm plus though, might not bend and flex as well as the 3mm, if thats important.

ditto thats whats on ours and its lasted pretty well you should be able to get a large off cut for beer tokens as there is usually loads in the quarries thats half worn or demolition companies as well

Failing that any conveyor belt supplier that joins belts or services conveyors should be able to help you out. Our local company is vulcanising south west but no doubt there are similar companies near you.

Well, I've had a right result with this! It turns out that one of the biggest conveyor belt companies is just a few miles from me! I paid them a visit to see if there was a chance of getting some old reclaimed rubber.

I was guided to the waste skip and told to take whatever I wanted.

Christ....I was like a ***** on acid in there!

It was all brand new off-cuts in various shapes and thicknesses. I came away with long strips and sheets of almost a square metre from 5mm up to 10mm. All free of charge and an invite to come back for more whenever I need it which I doubt will be for quite a while!

Sorted!!
