Hi Steve - yes prob would be ok.

They are fit for purpose but just not as well made as the original.

After this lot are sold I am increasing the price - we can't sell them at this price and we only did it to challenge the other importer.

We have around x30 of these left.

Thanks Rob, what do you do to strengthen the longer version?.... and would your winching kit fit it too?

What maximum length Chilaskan should I get for a Stihl 661 fitted with one of your GB narrow kerf bars?

cheers, steve

i Steve,

36" mill, 42" bar and yes the winching kit would fit.

Just been walking through our woods for a couple hours.... the oaks that have dropped in the storms are between 18" and 33" diameter.

Also measured some of the bigger oaks (that are still standing) and they're at 44" diameter.

So guess I may as well go for a 48" mill.

cheers, steve

Great thanks.

Does that mean a 661 would be able to cut a maximum of 36" width?

What would the maximum sizes be if using a Stihl 880?

cheers, steve

Yes, the maximum you would get out of the set-up I described would be 36" - you need the bar longer than the mill rails to leave the bar nose outside the mill frame.

An 880 would handle a much longer mill/bar, although it does slow down. 60" bar, 56" mill would be fine.

With trees up to 44" available, I would definitely go for the 48" mill. It can be shortened up to fit a shorter bar on the 661 and then run it longer on the 880.

I posted this in the chainsawbars area so apologies for duplication!

Better placed here in Alaskan...

We have just got these in - SawTroll quick release clamps for the Alaskan Mill. You can also use one set if you have a small log mill.

Buy here - http://alaskanmill.co.uk/product-cat...laskan-spares/

Everyone knows what a faff it is setting the height of an Alaskan - these make it far easier and save you having to dig a spanner out!

Vid to watch as below:

We only have limited numbers of these at the moment so if you fancy them get in quick.

Also - postage will be cheaper if this is all you are buying - use the postage reducer tool to bring the postage down to £3.95.

:)

Where's the postage reducer tool then?

Thankyou.

What bar would you recommend for the Stihl 661 & Stihl 880?

I was thinking of getting the GB lo pro at 42" for the Stihl 661 but after reading up in other threads would it be better to run a shorter bar on the 661 (eg, 34") and longer bar on the 880 (eg, 48")??

Also, are the GB lo pro bars much quicker in the cut?.... I only need it for milling.

cheers, steve

You'll get away with using the 36" bar on a 661 but don't use the 47" stihl bar on the 880 that bar doesn't have a nose sprocket and therefore puts an unnecessary strain on the engine, I use a sugi hara 46" on my 880
