Well, I've ordered 20x1l and 10x3l so will give it a go, although might have to wait until next year.

 

Anyone tried those micro-irrigation systems?

I only know of the commercial drip line system where a nozzle with a hole which achieves X litres per hour. They are effective and easy. It's good to reposition the nozzle to help spread the root growth every few weeks.

I've ordered a cheap system to see if it has potential. Plan is to rig it up to a water butt and shove a load of willow cuttings in the water to make it potent!

The cheap systems aren't very good but reasonable drippers are not a bad price. I would buy some drippers separate to whatever kit you bought as that's what lets them down.

Will need a pump to work from a butt. The willow is a good idea but will foul up the nozzles.

Commercial lines need flushing and checking, so the arteries of your lines would definitely clog.

Could bag the willow up in tights or just produce the Willow Water in bottles and add it

You should put a tree in an airpot and one in tradition pot, see the difference in a year. If you are ordering from the seller I suggested you'll see the concave bottom. Obviously it goes up so away from the ground so no root to ground penetration. They are better than the originals. The fact that you get no root spiralling really sorts the tree out when planting out. I'll post a picture of a eucalyptus.

I'm glad you started this thread as I grow some trees too.

Some great tips there from Goaty. I particularly liked the insight on airport bottoms cracking and will be keeping my eye out for concrete pavers now.

Thanks to 7610 for sharing your air pot source. I will be checking that out too.

I am on a private water supply and the pressure is non existent but I have invested in a pump to supply my garden and greenhouse as I wish to set up a mist propagator too.

 

Goaty What size of tree can you grow in a 10litre mesh pot? How do conifer fair in such pots? Are they always blowing over in the wind?
