Dead beech dismantle

Both those limbs were seriously long, a gob cut would have hit the floor before it broke off, unless the gob was so narrow it might as well have been a step cut. The only safe way to do them would have been to go out and break them down, but like I said, Im lazy.

You'll never get an inboard stepcut take the saw. They can split though.

mmm..correct me if i'm wrong. lot of weight on a long heavy branch ..if you use a step cut there is a change that it will catch your saw. there was one clip there where it peeled and could have caught your saw...even if you keep cutting.

Could have nipped out half way and dropped a bit of weight off first.

( contructive criticism )

Good job though. got it done fast. :thumbup1:

I have never had an inboard step take the saw, but that doesn't mean its impossible.

Has anyone else?

how..? same thing cutting big branch with lot of weight on it...using step cut..

If your top cut is out beyond the under cut, its possible to slightly overlap the under cut, meaning your saw is in a curth in the branch, saw goes with branch.

If your top cut is inside the under cut, if you overlap, the saw is in a curth in the stub, saw stay with you.

The only way I can think of is if the under cut was way too shallow, so that the limb splits back behind the top cut, maybe??

so you telling me with a large branch with a lot of weight on it..you are going to put a deep under cut in?! don't you think you will get your saw jammed.? doh!

very good video..but all I am saying is i would have put a mouth in those big bits or took a bit of weight off the ends.

I am sure there are lots of mistakes i make when climbing..and i don' t mind if i get told i am doing something wrong / better way to do it as it makes you a safer better climber.
