How smooth does a floor need to be for a pallet truck?

I must be a wimp compared to you lot...!!!! :blushing:

Our new shed (built only in December '15), has a glass smooth concrete floor, and I struggle to push about the 2cm kiln dried ash crates we get in with our pump truck.... :blushing:

BT pro lifter is the answer. Sometimes referred to as a ratchet pallet truck. Pull the second lever and the pump handle rotates the wheels about 1/3 turn to get you started. Not cheap but a well made truck.

Hi Tommy

It just arrived so been out to have a play I mean do some work.

Basically it is great. It's hard to get it started when pushing if on a rough bit but once moving no bother. You notice any gradient as barn has a sloping floor for drainage but again overcome-able. Even moved half full crate out on the hardstanding. My eat more pies to make it easier though :laugh1:

Thanks woodworks,

Unless the pics are deceptive your concrete floor is smoother than mine, but those large diameter wheels at the back are the key. it might restrict to pulling over the bumps though. What make is it and roughly what did it cost?

Yes to be fair the floor is better than I remember. Years of getting scraped with a tractor bucket has taken off any bumps. This is the one I got but in hindsight maybe should have got the one with longer tines as they don't quite pick up the far rail on the metal pallet IBCs if picking them up length ways. Ah BT pro lifter reveals the type you mentioned. I tried ratchet pallet truck but got no results. That does look very clever and can see how you can handle rougher ground or higher loads with that design :thumbup1:

Yes sorry I couldn't remember the name. We bought one several years ago when a 5ft girl was moving 1300 kg pallets on a less than perfect surface. Electric is obviously better but more money.
