poplar is soft stuff so either it's not poplar or you have blunt chisels.

 

using blunt tools can be a bit dangerous so sharpen everything first.

 

when do you think you may be able to visit?

 

its a sealed turners block with poplar stamped on it, looks like pop very pale and light. indeed blunt tools are dangerous, so its now awaiting daddy to sharpen up.

as for coming up, not sure as of yet need to see my diary after the weekend.

The West Sussex turners club is very good, they've got quite a setup at Amberley museum. Other half's dad is a member and in Horsham, I can ask him who's best to give you some tips and a session on your lathe if you like.
