Hi. Does any one know where I might be cable to buy a reel of oregon ripping chain. 404 063 5 skip and 3 skip I would like. But woukd buyvnormal ripping chain and grinds some teeth if i had to.

Lucas mill charging a fortune fir slabber chains direct and they only supply oregon ones anyway.

Chainsawbars can supply by the reel. Not sure what can be obtained in the way of ripping chains - some patterns can only be had from the US and Oregon won't supply to the UK, but standard ripping would be easy enough.

I have asked rob before if he can supply 3 or 5 skip and he said no.

Just priced up a granberg 190 link ripping chain from there and it's considerably cheaper than lucas 5 skip. I assume If I take toot with the grinder it will be exactly the same as the granberg 5 or 3 skip ripping chain?

I've never made up a chain loop myself (though im dure i could)so maybe I'll just buy a couple of loops off rob and have a play.

I have a granberg ripping chain for my alaskan in 404 063 so I will compare it to my lucas chains.

Anyone know the number of drive links in 100ft reel of 404 063 ripping chain. Trying to figure out how much cheaper it is to buy a reel and not loops .

My loops are 190 drive links long. So how many would I get from a reel?

I think a reel of .404 chain has about 1400 links on it.

THanks. So if this is correct a 100ft reel woukd give me 7 loops and cost 495 where as 7 loops would cost 625. So there is savings to be made but considering i wouldn't buy 7 now, I only need 3 2 x 3 skip and 1 x 5 skip. So should I spend 267 on 3 or 495 on 7. I guess I'd need to buy rivets and links too. Looking like 3 it is.

Any how, does anybody have any experience changing these chains to 3 or 5 skip?
