Cone splitter on a smaller digger - any good?

Recommended Posts

Not sure about most trailers nearly a tonne, my ifor tipper which is a right heavy pig is a tonne empty but most plant are quite light

Your quite right.

I was surprised to see just how light they were.

Most that I see are flatbeds, solid & mesh sides or stock types. That or they are using normal trailers as plant ones. Dont think I have seen any pukka plant ones.

There was a company making 3500kg aluminium trailers which only weighed 500kg. They were for putting a JCB 3 ton digger on, skeletons with no bed. Not seen them for a while so I assume trailer type approval stopped it.

Tbh I couldn't tell you the weight. But fairly certain I've failed to lift a log , with the screw remaining in the wood, with no damage to the screw ( that I know of ATM) I would only lift with a vertical screw.

My mate says that, as a rule of thumb, an excavator will be able to lift a weight equivalent to 10% of its own weight at full reach. Does that sound about right?

Well I’m happy to report that the Mouse Valley 250mm cone (65mm round hole) is a perfect partner for the Digga Pdx2 on my 2.7t. Fast enough and works very well. A bargain if you already have an auger.

Suitable for Excavators from 2.5-5 Tonnes and skidsteer Loaders Easily fit to your existing drill (65mm...

I was intending to make a more ‘fixed’ mint, but actually it’s quite nice to use with the dangle auger mount. Easy to pick up and move logs too simply by screwing and unscrewing.

Far more effective and controllable than I’d dared hope.
