Crb/dbs checking

I'm a self employed 1 man band doing tree work, fencing and other contracting. I've been asked to do some fencing for our local school and they need me DBS/CRB checked (possible future work as well). How do I go about getting CRB/DBS checked. How long does it take and how much. Thanks in advance. Marc

I would have thought they would do it on your behalf.

From Gov.UK

Only employers and licensing bodies can request a DBS check. Job applicants can’t do a criminal records check on themselves. Instead, they can request a basic disclosure from Disclosure Scotland (you don’t have to be from Scotland to do this).

The school did ours or at least provided the forms, checked the requested id's and proof of address and sent them off , costs £70 per person, takes roughly 3 weeks. You then need to complete an online form to go onto the auto updated database. The DBS check is like a cars MOT, you get the cert and could break the law the next day yet still show as clear. The online system now keeps your record current.

Pretty much what I have been told, it's mostly big wigs gone pc mad that insist on it, one school o was asked not to work when the kids were out, good excuse for break and dinner!
