Bill is probably best for small bands and tools, and London Saw do a lot of big bands for the larger mills. Both of them have a van running around collecting one week and dropping off the next.

 

Sorry I've not been in touch about getting your lads up to speed on the mill. Last few months have been fairly crazy!

It is worth considering purchasing the machines to do the sharpening and setting yourself. We got them with the new mill in October and haven't looked back. The blades cut more consistently (despite the fact that I'm still not 100% on it) and it's saved me a fortune. Probably at about 150 sharpens so far, which has saved me £1800 compared to using the local saw doctors (the cost of the machines has been covered).

 

Also lets you take a somewhat laissez faire attitude towards metal in wood.

as J says, if your running any quantity of bands, do them youself, you get to check every tooth gullet and grind youself, and you know that the set and angles are correct, no more "friday afternoon" re-sharps

there is a certain satisfaction in blade sharpening your own, I saw this 'sharp and set' in the United Kingdom 2016 | Wood-Mizer UK page 26/27 the other day and, although it has a manual element to it, thought it would be a useful investment for a mill owner
