As tittle really,

Had a few hedges to trim and cut down lately with a friend who has some old stuff,

So after some recommendations on a hedge cutter not mega money ones really but something that will last.

Going to start doing some lawns etc as well so was thinking a second hand Honda would do me.

Thanks

can't beat Rover lawnmowers in my opinion and plenty of second hand ones about, I have a tanaka tbc 230 long reach hedge cutter and a tanaka tbc230 multi tool, both great machines and the heavy duty heads outlast most of the competition. Personally I wouldn't bother buying a short reach hedge cutter as I find it easier to get an even finish with the longer arc of a long reach cutter, plus a long reach will do everything a short reach can but not vice versa.

What other makes of hedge cutters are worth looking at apart from sthil,

I think I'd prefer decent second hand gear to poorer new stuff.

Have been looking at the izys they like to rust!

Rover are all alloy bodies, easy to get spares and work on, echo do some good hedge cutters too!

The izys don't rust any more than any other steel deck mower probably less! I've got 2 had one for 6 years used commercially for at least one full days worth of cutting a week.

They are as bomb proof as you can get for an inexpensive mower.

I'm going to be in the market for a new hedge trimmer myself soon. I think I will be going for a dolmar which is basically a re-badged fuji robin. Fantastic quality of cut unlike many of the other machines.

Are the Stihl hs45 really that bad? They don't look bad for the money?

can't comment on the hs45 but be aware a Stihl badge (or any other big name brand) does not guarantee quality.
