Hi guys i bought i zigzag and a Marlow viper 11.8 mm a couple weeks ago and its frayed bad compare to my older yale fire xtc 13 mm i climb branch to branch till i reaach my appropriate anchor points the i use a friction saver so can't think why it doing this any suggestions thanks

What kind of trees do u climb regularly as this can affect the ropes lifespan, also if your throwing ahead or climbing branch to branch its goin to wear the rope out quicker. Its not always possible but try to establish a high anchor from the ground, ascend and work the tree from that one anchor.

Im not sure what marlow viper is like but i had a similar experience with 13mm marlow gecko rope that seemed to fray and have lots of pulls on it.

It passed a lolar inspection but i retired it anyway and now climb on tachyon 11.7mm.

If in doubt seek profesional advice and in the mean time quarantine the rope if you thinks its dubious.

I have 45m of Marlow Aeris which I was given and use DRT. I noticed it frayed (more fluffed up) after very little use, but not in the way the rope is in the Zig zag thread above. It fluffed up lots more than the other ropes I was using, and made me feel uneasy as at the time I had been climbing less than a year. I decided to keep it as an access line but don't use it very often.

if it just light fraying (fluffy) then that is ok as is normal rope wear. But if you have damage to threads of rope you need to cheack the entire rope. If one thread of the rope is cut all the way though then the rope is no longer safe , you can can have a few threads cut but not all the way though ( as long as they are not opposite each other). If you are not sure get a more experienced climber to check for you or get it lolered.

i had a marlow venom 11.8 and it wears very quickly compared to the yale rope.

It seems light but other ropes I've use its hasn't been as quick to frayed i alsi try high branches rather than short pulls like branch to branch i miss wording but it still seems that it won't be as durable as others guess i should have bought yale and isnt this Marlow meant to be designed for zigzag use well that's according to them
