2 years ago it was about 1200 a week, now it's normally about 100 a week. But I'll still do a couple of jobs a month that will be a end up being a 400 mile round trip. Tends to be more checking that work has been done now rather than actually working.............

I quite happily work nationwide, took me a couple of years to realise what the real cost of that was though. All very well pulling in a thousand pound a day but it soon disappears with diesel, overnight accomodation, hired plant etc etc. In fact I know someone that managed to service some sites at 3 times the cost of what he earned off them.............

 

How I didn't go bump I'll never know...........

I do around 250 - 300 in an average week

Most of my work is within 10 miles of the yard

i used to travel 60 miles to grantham where this guys yard was, then most his work was 30 odd miles away in lincoln. so if my maths is right that works out 900miles a week.

Its worked for me. I have nearly all my own plant, and my own haulage. I build in extra diesel and accomodation in advance.

Not saying its ideal, but we seem to be quick and efficient enough to make it pay for both ourselves and clients.

I'm guessing it used to average 300 miles a week, even using a caravan to stop over in the week. I've moved nearer the work now, so should cut that down a bit.

30 mile radius for tree surgery, 50 miles for consultancy and worldwide for canopy/specialist work but thats only once or twice a year if I'm lucky.
