Just got my 372 back after the tank split at the seam and had a new one fitted.

 

Now I'm trying to figure out how to prevent it again, the seams the lowest part of the saw and comparing it to my 550/560 they have rails along the base.

 

Anyone made a skid plate or similar to help the issue???

No but you could try a layer of:

 

• fibreglass_ tough and easy to apply

• Araldite_ maybe a bit heavier and doesn't hold well to vibration

• Silicone mastic_ thickish layer but not light

 

Expanding foam_ fill dust ill half full with fresh foam and immerse whole chainsaw in a leave to cure. Won't be able to use the saw again but if you drop it, it may well just bounce around.

I wouldn't worry too much normally they are tough. But I split the seam on mine and repaired it with araldite and fibreglass strips and that is still going strong so you could reinforce it like that

I figure using epoxy to stick to plastic runners down the bottom?

Hadn't though of before now. But do you know anyone with a glue gun? The glue sticks are cheap and pretty hard when set. Just run a few lengthway ridges along the bottom, (leaving the full harden before use).

I've seen aluminium skid plates for the bigger saws that run the whole bottom of the power head but a silicone bed covering the tank would protect the seam but how long would it last after a few spillages ??

PU adhesive and a piece of aluminium plate stuck to it. Sikaflex or Tiger Seal are common makes but generic are cheaper.
