See if someone will take you on as a brash dragger/labourer to see if you have the tenacity for the job, then build up your credentials after that, far too many in the industry with too many tickets and not enough heart or skill to do the job. Better to hire for attitude and train in the skills.

Phone around your local companies and be honest and explain your desire to do the job. Good luck, if you want it bad enough you will get it. :thumbup1:

I'm 38 worked as a farrier for 20years self employed and now a qualified plasterer self employed again. Hard work long hours don't scare me and travelling doesn't either. Ran very successful business got to the top of the industry and needed a different challenge and always loved the outdoors and fancied tree surgery and now taking the opportunity to do it. Have a 2 year old who, lives with his mum but I have him every other weekend, other than that am prepared to work what ever hours required to get experience and learn the business.

Good luck to you. Looks like you got the right attitude. When someone gives you the chance listen and sweat hard. If you get two minutes to spare check the fuel in the saws, if the climber has had the saw screaming for a while have the can waiting to top up. Nothing more frustrating having to send the saw down and having to wait 5 minutes to have it topped up. Little things like this go a long way
