Is this too much to ask of a baby tractor.

So I am using our compact tractor to get roundwood back to base as can't get deliveries in the yard. It's almost flat and the tractor copes fine. Been wondering if this combination would be up to forwarding in woodland. I realise it would need guarding underneath but at present I am being very wary of hitch weight and keep the load over the trailer axles. Can imagine in woods it would need better traction so would be best with more weight over the tractor's rear axle but it's not the beefiest machine so was wanting opinions from those in the know.

Suppose the other question is is there any work out there for this sort of set up?

How much does your tractor weigh Beau, and what sort of weights will you be carrying? Can you wait till summer for extraction?

Tractor is 1350kg I think but has incredible traction for it's size. Trailer is rated for 6 tonne but would be a job to get that much on it. Haven't got a job for it yet just working out whether it would be up to the job first.

Which tyres are on the trailer, they look narrow but it could be the picture, wide tyres and good trailer brakes would be my preference if the tractors small.

Have you checked the manufacturer's load rating, hitch rating etc for your machine? Then assume that applies to flat level ground.

I would think you should be OK if the ground conditions are good. It may help to get some wheel weights and put some water ballast in the tyres.

 

Best thing to do is experiment. If you put too much on you have the means to lift it back off.

 

If you do go into the woods keep a keen eye out for stumps and try not to drive over too much brash. These are the killers for compact tractors. Other than that they can be very capable woodland machines. The loader may well come in handy too!

My neighbour uses one in the woods, heavier than yours, bout 2 tonne, four wheel drive and double back wheels. Its unstoppable.

No just the picture angle they are good and fat but the tractor is not fitted with trailer brakes
