Aren't they the engines that place a blast of clean air inbetween the burnt and unburnt charge after the power stroke? It means less unburnt fuel gets sent straight through to the exhaust.

more new saws from stihl on the way...

 

just announced, the ms441 C-M, with a full electronic "M-tronic" carburetor, that automatically re-tunes the carb for optimum running in all conditions (think husky 576xp autotune)

 

 

and for all your 60odd cc budget 'farm' saw needs, the 311 and 391, already on german shelves, seems it might share a few components with the 362....

A stratified charge engine is one that places a richer mixture near the spark plug - easier to ignite properly - and this flame front spreads to the weaker mixture around the outside of the cylinder. The result is that the average mixture can be weaker whilst still producing the same power. The optimum mixture for power is not the same as for ignition, the stratified charge engine is a partial solution.
