Would you use a rent a clear up crew ???

Id like to get opinions on something I've thinking about doing for a number of years but am unsure if there's the demand for it.

The basic concept is of a "one stop chipping service" Id be offering a large chipper and a truck with hiab facilities to remove chip and timber plus 2 men.

The idea is to assist the standard tree surgery outfit ie transit tipper and 6 inch chipper gangs on larger jobs where logistics of waste (chip & unwanted timber)

mean that they're unable to be competitive.

I'm interested to get some constructive feed back from business owners as to if this is something that would be a real workable solution also as this business would not be offering tree work at all so there's no problems with conflict of interest.

I already provide this service to local firms on a flexible basis. ie me plus truck, me plus truck and labourer, me plus chipper etc etc

I've a 14 ton 4x4 lorry with hiab and 10 cube chipbox.

As some of the above posts have already said, it's a useful service to offer occasionally but it's not my full time income and would probably struggle if I didn't do other things.

I do big dismantle assists using MB Trac and Heizohack chipper or MB Trac and timber drag. Looked at using a wagon but could not get the figures to stack up compared to the MB Trac and drag. Only advantage for a wagon was long distance but my ethos is to provide a local service so MB Trac is fine.

That's sounds like a top setup renewable John but if you're touting yourself out to other firms then as you mentioned. A wagon can travel further afield and get their faster.

Had you factored in or out a grab on your hiab? Verses a timber grab proper.

There was an interesting thread on the subject a few days ago.

It's a trade off between speed and strength.

Think I gain on sites where access is not roadside and if trees need to be pulled over.

I reckon you'll do better with a grab and no chipper, get them to get it roadside, then stuff it in the back, trunk, brash, logs and all.

But then youve got to take it somewhere and burn it. = more time.

Depends I guess, maybe take it back for chipping/shredding with a massive unit periodically.

Certainly be quicker at point of collection.
