Replanting in a hole infected with kretzschmaria

Question for the tree health care experts. This week we removed a 4ft diameter copper beech infected with kretzschmaria. The stump has been ground out. The customer wants a sizable copper beech replanted in its place, and when I say sizable I mean £1500 worth. Whats the implications of planting in the exact same position with regards the likelihood of the new tree becoming infected also please?

And crist! How bug will the tree be at that price? Dia and height? Does that include some form of crane costs too? Get pictures!

Thats for the tree alone. Will get a pic if i'm involved with the planting(which is unlikely)

From observation I would say copper beech are less likely than common beech to host Kretzschmaria duesta, but that doesn't mean it can't be colonised.

 

The spore of Kd will everywhere, so as its Colonising strategy is 'Sapwood (roots/buttresses) exposed'

the key will be keeping whatever tree goes back in the hole, free from stress and mechanical damage.

 

Replanting with a tree that big will quite possibly lead to some broken roots during transportation/planting.

 

Worth considering why the first tree became infected

Another option may be to grind, excavate all soil and then reinstate and install a suitable barrier, not sure if geosynthetics do that kind of thing?I assume it would be expensive but then so is £1500 on one tree.

Yes remove all inoculum present (in the roots) and replace soil, with soil from the rootzone of a healthy beech, ideally.
