Defender, lift it or not?

Next stage on project landy is to sort the suspension...

 

Currently sat on standard (NON HD) 110 shocks and springs and its awful, tyres rub on buck while cornering!

 

Going for a complete new setup, YES I have read the many threads on this already but should i lift it? 50mm or so?

 

More ride height above the bump stops, not much else i can think of?

Standard height heavy duty springs should roughly give a 1" lift and not sagg over time. Plus you don't have to faff about getting extended brake lines/hoses.

You will alter aspects of the suspension/steering geometry.

 

The purists will suggest you need to insert spacers in the prop shafts as they are effectively longer (bigger distance from transfer box to diff) and it would benefit from different angled radius arms.

 

If you only increase the height by an inch or two and dont want to enter competitions you will probably be OK

1-2" no worries, I ran that on a 90 for years and then on a d2. The d2 did work as a training vehicle coz I was an off rd instructor at the time. I found it did improve the 90s handling off rd.

Id rather use standard parts (non OEM) and avoid a lift if possible.

 

Anyone recommend some extra heavy duty standard height springs and some shocks to match?

Its a tipper, lugging chip, mostly overweight.

Thats a lot of weight high up , I would go for standard ride height heavy duty springs and add a heavy duty anti roll bar.

Standard ride height or even drop it an inch. Super heavy duty springs. The higher you lift it the higher you need to lift each log you load onto it.
