I use wood database all the time.

I have some Spanish almond wood that I bought and hate using. I only have a small carving axe and it took me hours to split it even though the thing was already cracked right through the heartwood. I have 3/4 of a log in the cupboard because the piece I managed to split fell out of it like a slice of cake rather than splitting right across to the other side like any respectable log.

I don't know how much you need but I could send a chunk over in the new year.

Edit: Sorry, didn't read closely enough. I'll get a new bandsaw blade from tuffsaws and cut a 4x4x1" chunk out at some point. I could do it tomorrow but my Axminster blade couldn't handle a piece of brown oak that's been giving me hassle and decided to snap.

i find brown oak fairly easy to cut.

i do already have a bit of almond but it's only 1 3/4" sq by 5" long so a larger bit would be best for the database.

do you have any other interesting species?

still looking for any unusual species people, if you have anything on the log pile or one that would usually go in the chipper then please hold a lump back and i'll happily add it to the list of samples going to the states.

I have got some wellingtonia !!! and maybe a few others but how do I get the samples to you ?regards Tom

if we can get a package of timbers together then i will pay for a courier.

he does have the species of coastal redwood (sequoia sempervirens) but not giant redwood/wellingtonia (sequoiadendron giganteum) or the dawn redwood (metasequoia glyptostroboides).

if you have a species that is not on this list then please let me know.
