I want a ball and pin hitch for the back of the Suzuki to provide a recovery point and a means of towing trailers with eyes (although unfortunately, none of the normal ones seems big enough for a NATO eye so my Sankey will be up for sale soon - not that the Jimny is probably suited to it anyway :( )

There seem to be 2 types, ones with a separate pin and ball:

and ones where the ball forms the end of the pin:

Wondering which type is best

I dont like the last one.

All that is stopping the ball lifting is a small pin in shear.

The type you get from agri places have a threaded portion & a nut to stop it lifting.

You wont find a pin that will take a NATO hitch. Just change the trailers hitch to a standard one if you are happy with the trailer.

I have had several of first pic type and no trouble so far. Usually lose split pin in no time when grounding the rear out, but thats just me. i don't like the thought of that happening on 2nd type.

That needs a four hole mounting plate & the Jimny only has two. The Sankey is a bit heavy anyway and we have a larger twin axle trailer for bigger loads. Looks like I'll go for the first type, thanks :)

Just make sure if you use that hitch that the trailer has a rotating hitch fitted & you have unlocked it.

I've got a rotating NATO hitch anyway but without an adaptor, I can't fit it to the Suzuki or Hilux
