It seems that a lot of people really have no clue as to what chain they are using!:confused1:

A standard 550/560 are exactly the same ie .325 pitch 1.5mm gauge.

550 can run 2 chain widths . RTFM. Good point people don't know what they use.

I gave my Piranha chain a second sharpen and the few cutters that were hard to file the first time weren't apparent.... so it seems that whatever hardened those cutters was only on the surface.

I'm no longer having to keep tightening the stretching chain (and I reckon that's very similar to Oregon chain).

So far I would say that Piranha chain doesn't cut as well as Oregon chain (and that's with the rakers taken down the same amount).

I'm edging closer to going back to Oregon chain, even if it costs a lot more.... unless the Piranha chain does something more impressive in the cut hereon (not even close to half worn yet). Time will tell.

Cheers, steve

That's exactly what I thought.... the file was hardly touching it and then I gave it some extra pressure and it felt like it was barely scratching the surface /rather than removing metal.

I also forgot to mention that the bar has also shown signs of generating excessive heat (coloured the metal on the edge of the bar). Before fitting the chain the bar was well dressed & oiling as it should.

cheers, steve

I used a brand new flat file today and it wouldn't even touch the rakers!!

It's going to have to be done with a grinder!

Don't think you'll get many that will argue that like mate!

Stihl chain is excellent, not used the bars yet even though I have one!
