So if I'm picking this up right, 116 people have read my post, 1 has replied (thank you Richard), but nobody has provided an answer - so how stupid would all 117 of us look if our gear was stolen and we were asked for the serial numbers by the police and insurance company????

Ah right, so the numbers on the sticker on the hand guard have nothing to do with it? I will dig deeper tree beard, thank you.

Never on a sticker, always a very permanent part of the machine that you wouldnt likely replace (crankcase). Not sure about plastic fantastic saws.. if memory serves, on blowers strimmers etc there is usually a little rectangular hole in the plastic engine covers so you can see the serial number.

So which is the serial number on Stihl products??? The long number usually under the year, ie 97/68SH3 11A etc etc or the number at the right hand side of the sticker going from bottom right to top right corner, 1121 967 330 etc????

That number is a part number, although you're a number short!

1121 is the crankcase number

The next 3, eg 791, is a specific part (791 means AV handles)

Then the final 4 digit number refers to the direct part, with the last digit being a consecutive part, starting with 0, super ceded by part number ending with 1, 2 and so on
