Government guidance says that the inspector should have in depth knowledge of the kit and its application.

 

OK where simple kit like a prussic loop is concerned but there is plenty of arb kit that that would leave many with a furrowed brow

 

Price and ease of getting it done really. I trust myself enough to know if my kit is fit for purpose so it's more for insurance purposes than anything else.

The boss man at Medway Slings is very knowledgeable when it comes to LOLER and he is fully qualified,

he also has a strong arb background, so no problem there.

 

There are two Andy's who train at Kingswood, they are good as well.

This is the funny thing with the Arb industry it seems to want to be special or different...We're neither it's just ropes, slings, mechanical devices etc they're used in loads of industries and these guys serve those industries with a far greater frequency than ours. I'm sure if they can certify all the fancy swivels etc used for lifting and inspect cranes etc they can handle a lock jack or bulldog bone just fine. The fact their price is realistic IMO just reflects that they're working for normal contractors who realise LOLER isn't a niche that you need to pay through the nose for.

While I agree whole heartedly with the sentiment its made that way by .gov covering its arse and leaving wriggle room for lawyers
