Guys a little help please

emergency call out blue cedar splitting

arrived on site to find a mature blue cedar multi stem 3 main ledars, ledar near road and flats showing signs of splitting all the way down main stem. wind rocking this beast around opening up about 2-3 inches iminante failure coming ohhhh. my questionis ihave taken a lot of weight from the crown of this stem and temporarily braced it although i feel this whole stem needs to come down. now my problem is if i do this the whole tree is going to be completely unbalanced therefore condeming it to complete removal

tree does have TPO but have been told to do whats needed for H&S reasons

bank holiday weekend doesent help with Arb officors approval.

sorry no pics at mo

wanted to try and save this 70ft beast though.

although i do know deep down it dont look good.

I like your thinking, deep down though its your call, for what its worth i've seen a couple of mature Cedars with large portions of crown missing some i think judging by the scaring/wound wood during the 1987 storms.

cheers this beast is on the corner of a land mark roundabout in the public eye etc

just want to tick all the boxes

dont want to go all gunho and then get done over by local LA

but you all know what these trees are like was thinking of removing this big upright limb and then reducing weight on opposite side ? but still theres going to be problems in future with major heart rot etc the trees got to be 100 -150 years old maybe we should call time

if the stems splits from the base then then there is less chance of 'unbalancing the tree'

There are prob loads of things you can do to try and save the tree rather than condemn it from the off.
