For Arboriculture and related work which courses and qualification/s are most appropriate for using a MEWP?

What do I need to be aware of?

Thanks in advance

David

Hi David, I would suggest "most appropriate" is one thing and being recognised / accepted quite another.

Hence, respectively, I would suggest Lantra / C&G NPTC and IPAF (which, generally, has global recognition inc. for construction sites.)

Cheers..

Paul

PS Don't forget if you have CS39 (308) + MEWP ticket you don't need CS47 'chainsaw from MEWP.'

Great advice from Paul , all I would add is that you need to be aware that there are specific endorsements for a MEWP ( City

&Guilds - vehicle mounted , self propelled , trailed and vertical personal. I believe that this is the same sort of system with IPAF .

Make sure that your training and proof of competence is correct for the machine you intend to use

I would recommend IPAF every time. It certainly is the one area of training that has not been taken over by the money grabbing CPCS side of things. I work in construction and apart from my basic renewal through a touchscreen test of my Supervisor's ticket, I have lost loads of qualifications because even though you have previously been trained and are experienced, they want money every 3 to 5 years. I am no longer qualified to change an abrasive disc on a Stihl TS350. I am all for training and gaining experience but so many experienced and knowledgeable operators have simply said "F**** that". By the way, IPAF is good, sorry for the rant.
