Hi guys, going to see a second hand quad chip soon. I was thinking of buying brand new but can't resist saving around 6 or 7k...What are the main things, with quad chips in particular that I need to be checking for? cheers,

Joe

Get the serial number then call the factory to check its provenance. Then check it as if it was any other used chipper. Wobbles in flywheel and road wheels, belts and pulleys and associated stuff, infeed rollers and shear bars. Ask what work they have done to it and how much warranty comes with it, check that it functions as it should and has no vices etc. Has it got a spares package with it and a trackable service history.....same as you ought to on any woodchipper.

Good luck, hope it works out for you.

If I was buying mine...

I'd run her up and have the rollers turning for 15min then look for any hydro fluid leaking underneath the bottom roller.

Tyres, wear even?

Turntable locking catch, good nick or cracked?

Fuel tank, bulged?

Anvils harder to check but worth looking at as point of negociation as turning will cost you a few hours work.

Ask for the service schedule if any.

Good luck, they are great machines all round.
